Question Flashed wrong BIOS . How to re-flash the correct one from within Windows 10 ?

Hello to all.
My laptop model is Asus K56CB, CPU intel 3337U, 8Gb RAM . The motherboard is labeled " K56CM rev. 2.0". Trying to dual boot Linux/Windows , I somehow corrupted the BIOS - bricked - blank screen laptop. Took it apart, used a CH341 tool, and I reflashed the BIOS. The problem is that I flashed the WRONG version ( downloaded "freeware" from the net, although they said that is for Asus K56CB, proved to be for Asus S550CM ). WinFlash is reporting now: Model: S550CM, Version: 202, Build date: 11/23/2012. The laptop is working, and I am typing from it now. Just the "wrong" BIOS does not "see" my Nvidia GForce GT 740M / 2Gb VRAM , dedicated video card, and also my numerical keyboard is not working, including NUM LK.

My question: is it a way to reflash the BIOS from inside Windows10 ? to avoid open the laptop again and using CH341.

Downloaded from the Asus site, the latest correct BIOS version for my K56CB model ( version is 205 ) but this is a BIOS update. is not a .bin file. Even the "EasyFlash" software utility from their site, can not be installed on Windows10, saying that I don't have an Asus laptop .... :)

The furthest I reached is having succeeded in installing "WinFlash" utility in Win10 22h2. But when trying to flash a .bin file for K56CB ( of course ) WinFlash is giving error message: " The BIOS file is not suitable for this model" besides "Low battery power" ( forgot to mention that I don't have the laptop battery anymore, using it only on AC adaptor )

Thanks in advance for your sugestions.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

No.

You will need to reflash the BIOS chip using the CH341A BIOS Programmer toolkit, armed with the right BIOS file for your laptop(regardless of it being an update, it's still a BIOS file).

Thanks for your reply. Ok, understood, only with CH341 tool. Actually, this BIOS corruption is the 2nd time when happened. Some years ago I swapped the DVD writer with a caddy adaptor + 2nd HDD. The laptop started, but on the next reboot .... a blank screen. Useless to say, spent money at the service shop, because I didn't understand why the screen is blank :), not even a BIOS screen. That service guy was a ... gentleman :) , indeed he mentioned that maybe is necessary to re-write the BIOS, and ( I think because he didn't have a CH341 tool ) send the laptop to another "specialist". In the end received my laptop back, with no repairs done ( same blank screen at power on ) but the money was taken :)) Started searching the web for my problem by myself .... then I understood that a blank screen can happen due to a BIOS corruption, besides other reasons ( RAM , dead motherboard, etc ) Solution: bought fm Ebay a Windbond W25Q64FVSIG ( now I came to know the chip details after dismantled the laptop) preprogrammed for Asus K56CB laptop model. Cost me 50 USD that time - now can find for 17 USD - Bios Chip for Asus K56CB notebook motherboard (bios-chip24.com) . Went to a 2nd service shop - heat gun - and I had a working laptop. This last time, someone asked 30 USD for flashing the BIOS. For 6USD bought fm AlliExpress that CH341 tool and .... look on YouTube... The problem is that even this BIOS file is not for free - for a laptop model which was launched in 2013 .... That's why I ended up with the wrong BIOS file flashed, although I can say I was lucky-except the dedicated video card ( which I don't need most of the time - web surfing, movies ) and numerical keypad - everything else is working, CPU fan OK.
Still, I think is good to use a BIOS file for my laptop model .....

Thanks

( maybe useful for those people with the same laptop as me + a corrupted BIOS file - who knows? we are abt 8 billion on this planet :) , but yes, not all own a scrappy garbage Asus K56CB .... )
