Floppy Diskette Seek Failure, How do you fix the problem?

The problem came to light recently when I attempted to log on & was presented with a blue screen. Turned power off at switch then turned it back on after a few minutes. The computer then presented a black screen with the following script:-
“Floppy diskette seek failure. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.” (I strike F1.)
My machine (Dell Dimension 3100) has a CD Rom drive but no floppy disk drive.
This script is presented each time I log on.
Another curious thing happened when the problem first occurred…the date had changed back to April 2006. How about that for weird! I have correct the date.
Have you seen anything like this before?
How do I fix this problem?

It sounds like your bios battery is dead or dying. There should be a battery on the motherboard. Replace it. It should be a standard CR2032 battery. Once the battery is replaced, go into the bios and disable the floppy disk controller since you don't have a floppy disk drive.

Have managed to remove the error message (for now?).
Haven't replaced the battery yet. Is it a simple task to perform?
