Awesome warmon! I'm glad things sound like they are going well. Significant education can be hard to mix with full time work so it is good to look at all the options. Looks like a nice computer there too - I love those little Intel itx systems - so much power in such a compact, efficient, and cool box. I've been a bit scarce (from both here and computer upgrades) as I am buying/building my first house. Additionally with bigadv ending and some question marks in gpus, I wouldn't really want to get much right now specifically for folding. Now gaming cards for itx systems - a maxwell will fit there really nicely when you are ready

Yeah, that pretty much the plan. As knowing myself, there only so many things I can do till I cant fit anything else in. (and somehow, i'm always doing extra things that probably someone else should be doing.)
Currently, I've been playing 4 to 5 different rolls while being at job corps and that's really about my limit before being burned out.
That list includes:
Being a IT student
virtually being a instructor (mainly when the instructor wasn't there and all the other staff needed someone they could trust....) and until this new instructor comes along, I will be having to give test and grade them so other students can still be working towards there A+ certification.... (How in the world did I manage to get in to this. )
tech support to the center as they didn't have anyone hired for the job until like 2 weeks before I went on holiday break and they saw my talents with computers. (Maybe me learning a few things about computers before I went there didn't help matters. Partially blame Toms Hardware for that. /JK)
multiple levels of student government (If you would to visit the Harpers Ferry job corp center now, You would most likely meet me as I'm primarily the ambassador for the center and give tours to visitors, potential new students, and new students.)
And finally, Im on the wild-fire firefighter team. Although sadly, have not gone to an actual wildfire. By the time my rotation came around, the wild fires started to die down in the west and any firefighters along the east coast wasn't needed any more.
At least student government will be ending this month or next month.

Thanks! Although I will say that it's a little bigger in person than what some people think It would be (which is why I have a 360s right next to it). it's still small but without any reference to objects to what you own, it looks like it will be a bit smaller from video's and Photo's that what it actually is.
Now I just need to wait out of for the rest of the hardware to come it. (which cpu/motherboard wont be till the middle of next month). Although ram and SSD should be here by Friday/Saturday. (At least I have the X58 system to check those instead having to wait and find out if anything is DOA or not.)
I've been a bit scarce (from both here and computer upgrades) as I am buying/building my first house.
Well that's no small thing! I can understand you have more importation matters to attend to than messing with silly computers and internet people. 😛
Additionally with bigadv ending and some question marks in gpus, I wouldn't really want to get much right now specifically for folding.
Yeah, been reading F@H threads and forums and have notice a lot of changes been going on since i've last payed attention. Even some of the big teams such as [H]ardforums I can tell have started to shift to other projects and/or waiting to see F@H next move.
And if big teams such as them are waiting (if the past has be any indicator before), I'll probably want to wait it out and see myself.
*Although as a burn in test, Will be doing a little bit of F@H to verify everything is working. 😉

Would like to fit a GTX 970/980 now but I would of had to sacrifice in a lot of other area's just to make that work and it wouldn't be balanced to my needs for now right now while i'm there. I think intel HD 4600 is perfectly fine for Minecraft, Civilization 4, and PC Halo: Combat Evolve (little bit of ad-hoc multiple player action from time to time between a few of us).
But I know I'll change when I get out and they why I like this ability over laptops in the same price point.
I'm BACK.
Looks like I didn't miss much while gone.
Wife insisted I shut down the Desk computer while gone. But I left the 2p running.
Back up and running now.
LinusTechTips is going to knock us out of the top 30 soon. There's what a thriving community can accomplish. Too bad we have few ways to improve our team's visibility.
The forums have been having issues with long threads and has prevented users from posting. That could be why not much has happened around here lately.
@ext64 Have you heard anything new about Maxwell support for core 18? The last post I saw from Dr. Pande mentioned that their was some momentum in applying a driver fix for the OpenCL bug.
I have not heard anything beyond that unfortunately. The only ways Maxwell could be fixed are in NVidia's hands. I don't know if the problem is very difficult to fix or if they just have very little interest in fixing it. The other option (which was hinted to be in development) is a CUDA Just In Time compiler.
Biology or Molecular Biology. In human words, DNA Genome Sequencing stuff is my interest. Although, the biology part of Folding@Home fits perfectly into this category as well. Truly, it was one of the larger reasons that I became interested in this field. Who knows? I plan on becoming a doctor or genetics based scientist in the future, but I may go on to do F@H stuff instead. The entire field is just so awesome.
Realistically, my chances of being accepted are as small as a protein molecule, but I'll keep on trying. College apps aren't fun, but I think they're worth it.
 Yep, you never know. And there are many other Universities that participate in the F@h network, so even if you go elsewhere it could happen. Regardless it sounds lie a very cool plan.
Wow, I can't edit posts anymore (at least in this thread - is that a 'thread too long glitch?). Anyway, obviously it is 'like' not 'lie' in the post above :lol
Calm down there old man! Your words give me confidence though. Thanks. If the people on this thread have gone to college, it would be nice to hear what they thought of their school. On a more relevant note though, what are your opinions on the new F@H streaming infrastructure? Are they better than "traditional" work units you think?
I went to Virginia Tech (graduated last year with my MS in Mechanical Engineering) - it is a decent school and definitely good for my major at least.
I think there are some major pros with the new streaming format, and some cons. The biggest pros are no orphaned WUs, no deadlines, and the possibility of work balancing. Biggest con is poor or limited internet service will cause more of a problem than with traditional WUs.
I got my degree in molecular biology at the University of Aarhus. A lot bigger than Stanford, so that's probably part of the reason molecular biology is a separate education and institute, where it seems to be a part of medicine at Stanford. It is nice that molecular biology has its own facilities though, including on-site collaborations with private companies.
Probably not relevant for you though, since it's only tuition-free for residents of the EU.
Ooh, Denmark! Are you Danish? I don't know that place though. As for VTech though, many of my good friends go there.
EXT, what do you think about the streaming WU's supposedly being the replacement for Bigadv as well as the standard unit for low power Android/Laptop machines? Do you think that they can pull that off, even after ignoring internet bandwidth problems?
Well, the streaming really seemed great for all applications. Great for phones (though we'll see how much science they can really get done). There is no replacement for bigadv - it was a failed experiment too ambitious for fah. Speaking of bigadv, it ends today so my PPD is going to nosedive (one for losing the bigadv work and two because most of my multiP systems are heading over to boinc).
Ooh, Denmark! Are you Danish? I don't know that place though.
Yep. Denmark only had the University of Copenhagen for like 500 years, Aarhus was the first to break the monopoly. It's actually a bit larger now, but obviously it takes a [strike]century[/strike] while to build up the same reputation.
Copenhagen's biotech educations weren't that great when I was looking to enroll, so I went to Aarhus instead. If I'd studied physics or any number of other "old" subjects, I probably would have picked Copenhagen. It's always good to look beyond just the overall reputation of a university, at their investment in particular fields.
