For everyone else.
Delete the SMP or CPU folding slot.
Delete the CPU work unit folder. Could be 00, 01, 02, etc... check before you delete the slot. You do not want to delete the wrong folder if you are running CPU and GPU on the same machine.
Reboot and go to F@H Control advanced. Re-configure a CPU slot and hopefully you will not receive another 2981 WU like I did this morning.

All the protection you can have is not enough for a direct lightning strike. Terrible weekend.
Got hit very close or direct.
Lost 2 video cards 460s and power supply. Lost the monitor for the 2 systems downstairs. Fried the DVI output on 650ti boost. VGA still works.
TV and coffee pot in the kitchen.
Play station will only do 480p now. so no output for BL drive. or movies. Surround amp gone.
3 surge protectors. Main box surge protector. Phone lines. Router. (modem Lived!)
Airave for cell call reception in the house.
2p is folding. Put the 650ti in my rig for video output and folding. Points were pants until I went back to 327.?? driver. Seems ok for now. A little less than under Lubuntu.

When it rains it pours.
Our Chinese Crested (12 lbs.) and miniature Boston Terrier (7 lbs.) decided to get into a fight.
Wife reached in to pick up the terrier and got bit on the end of her finger. Pill antibiotics were not enough and 2 days later she is in the hospital with an out of control infection. Over night her finger swelled up like a bratwurst sausage and all the way up to her wrist.
5 days in the hospital hooked up to IV antibiotics and Morphine to knock her out from the pain.
While the Infection specialist and Hand surgeon specialist contemplated removing her hand or finger.
We decided if it became life threatening it would be removed, but otherwise it would not be removed as a precaution. Looked bleak for a few days there.
She is home now with hand and finger. The finger will be miss shaped and limited usage, it destroyed most of the tendons and ligaments in the first knuckle joint.
But she is happy to have her hand and finger.
May have to have a few more surgeries for cosmetic reasons and a few months of pain with physical therapy to regain partial use, as she is not able to bend it but about 1/5 of normal movement. With the first knuckle and tip with no movement or feeling at all yet.
The exercises bring tears to her eyes 4 times a day but she is determined to endure and regain use of it.

Think twice before deciding to break up a dog fight even if they are little.

scary and good advice!
I'm hanging it up guys, Maybe will return after I move out to Silicon Beach but right now too many things going on & too many frustrations with my 680s. Downsized and had to sell the heater in the basement; new apt too small to put up with the heat load and the $$$.
Was a pleasure contributing to this merry band.
A shame that Tom's doesn't support it as they could.
Good luck to all, glad to see some folks returning
Keep on FOLDING

pretzel out

I hope things work out well for you dude and that you return to the fold ASAP.

Peace out man.

Thanks guys.
She is working hard.
Next appointment is in two weeks.
It needs to heal and recover some before they can do more reconstructive surgery on the tendons and ligaments.
Still battling a small infection in the first knuckle.

Yo 😀

Seems like I haven't Folded for ages, maybe I haven't, baby girl is now 7 months old and has a tooth.

Bad news about your wife beloved patriot Rick, glad she managed to hold on to the fingers though (no pun intended 😉)

People leaving, out of control household bills yet the team keeps progressing up the charts, congrats to all 😉

Starting to get an urge to Fold again, anyone got any info on the GTX970, looks a sweet card.

Beano

I have been keeping an eye on it. The last time I looked someone was reporting 300K with an overclock. I think 250K+ is typical. (found here)

I am trying to scrape together some cash to replace the dual 560Ti's. I figure a 970 will give me at least a 10x improvement in PPD/Watt.

I've got a GTX 980 (well really my brother, but close enough at the moment).

Anyway, the performance and power (so efficiency) are everything they are rumored to be. Unfortunately a bug in the OpenCL drivers means really only project 9201 works right now and when a fix is implemented in software (currently in Core 18) performance is pretty weak. So right now they are awesome (plenty of 9201s), long term they should be great (should be fixed eventually or perhaps we will have a CUDA core), but intermediate forecast is cloudy.

Well, Core 15 WUs get around 80k PPD, and Core 18 (with the "fix") is low, though I have never run one myself. I think sub 100k though I am not sure. If you were able to get a Core17/18 without the software fix it would fail immediately.

Not making much progress on my part - cant seem to keep a rig in house to fold with - keep selling them.
hope I am contributing at least a bit to the movement up the rankings!
my ROG notebook keeps having display driver crashes anytime I try to enable the GPU folding slot... (so its a GT460M, so what? it can fold!)
trying to figure that out..

My f@h client seemed to fix itself and start churning out points again. I think a reboot may have helped, this was needed as Aero Peek was not working and it was too much effort to minimise to see my uptime monitor.

@random - i might try folding on my laptop if I have time over the weekend. You have me interested in heat and PPD. Its running an 8750M so won't be able to help looking into your problem.

@Unoloco - Hope your wife makes a full recovery.

I keep switching stuff between BOINC and F@h and shutting stuff down for family visits, so my points are up and down. But at least my Maxwell pair has been doing well. The GTX 980 and GTX 750Ti (in the same computer) are running in Linux and have gotten a pretty constant stream of 9201s netting about 400k PPD (70k 750Ti and 330k 980).

Yo guys!

I haven't been around for a while and I won't be back in the foreseeable future, but I've found some stuff that might be cool.

There's a new Ebola project on WCG on BOINC that is creating a lot of buzz. Although this may seem a bit unimportant from our point of view, I've been able to use it to convince about a dozen people to check out folding on the PC. Mostly the chrome app. Supposedly the PC setup for BOINC is a bit too much for normal people to bother with, but BOINC for mobile and folding for browser is just perfect. All I need to do now is to introduce the concept of teams...

Hi all! Long time no talk!

Sorry I haven't very active. I've been busy with the A+ exam, teaching some new tech staff's the way things are done at this job corps, and relaxing with family with for the holidays.

With saying that, On the 11th of this month, I did pass the A+ exam. 😀

First test with a score of 860 of 900 (need a 675 to pass) and Second test with a score of 810 of 900 (need 700 to pass).

Now, until i go off to advance IT training, I'll be working on Network+ certification at my current job corp.

Also another thing I'm doing getting a compact desktop together. Mainly my current laptop that i've been using all this time (Lenovo 3000 n200), it's finally time showing it's age and cant really do what I need it to do anymore.

(From F@H, to linux, beta-testing windows 8, autocad, OS virtualization, ect.. it's seen a lot and well beyond what it was designed for.)

And so i needed to upgrade. Why not another laptop? Wanted flexibility on what I could use it for (as evident from what my poor laptop as seen) and I wanted it to last for a while and no $700 from what I'm seeing was going to provide such. (about the current $ of the build I'm putting together for now.)

Now I would love to bring the Core i7 920 desktop along that EXT assist me with (supplying ram and cpu) but closet space is very limited at Job Corps.

So here is a List of what im getting.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/K3RHbv

and of that list, I just got the Case and Power Supply this morning from amazon.

All the pictures of the case and PSU can be found here.

Currently waiting on the ram and SSD from newegg.

As for the motherboard and CPU, did have the money for it but..... the family needed assistance with paying for fuel oil to keep the house warm.

So I'll have to wait a few weeks till I can run down to microcenter and grab the Motherboard and cpu (rather wait for this then be in a cold house ). Hopefully the cpu price and motherboard combo price will be still there.

(Core i7 4790k @ $249.99 vs 279.99 and there a $40 discount on select motherboard with these cpu's. (Asus Z79I-plus 159.99 but $40 off would make it 119.99 (not including tax).)

If not, Guess I'll have to adjust by getting a cheaper MB or dropping down to a core i5 4690k. Not that it would be all that bad dropping down to, I would just like as much performance as I can as I never know what program I might tryout next

No dedicated gpu for now as I haven't been gaming to much (mainly minecraft) with job corp in the way but I know when I'm done, I'll be adding one (which is why i've grabbed the 600w SFX psu instead of the 450w version.)
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Although I can safely say that I wont be able to Fold for another 6 months still (probably longer) as I'm still perusing more education (might as well get as much as I can while im at it.)

So I'll still try to check up this thread when I can. Just still cant operate in the same capacity as i did before leaving for job corps.
