Definitely agree with all of the above. Folding (and many DC medical projects) are long haul research. It could be years before some projects 'bear fruit', and some may end up not producing anything. All the nature of the beast. That being said, Folding hasn't done the best letting donors know that there actually has been progress. Keep an eye on blog posts for more info: https://folding.stanford.edu/home/blog/

However, there is certainly nothing wrong with branching out. F@h is really one of many great DC projects. BOINC has a plethora of projects, from similar biomedical (example: GPUGrid) to astrophysics (example: Milkyway and Einstein) to mathematics (example: PrimeGrid). While some of these projects you might not want to dedicate 100% to for the rest of your life, they can be a lot of fun to run for a month and learn about. They can be a lot of work to learn about and manage, but if you are feeling a little stagnant they can be a fun diversion. That's what I've been doing while waiting for the F@h ocores to hit the next stage of development (I've also been keeping a healthy amount of F@h going).

A little overworked here.
But a good thing. Most of my work is in the summer and winters are slow. Not many people out on the lake during winter.
And we are finally finishing the upstairs master bedroom suite.
In the last month and a half I have installed and finished 60 pieces of 4x8x1/2 sheetrock. the largest I can carry up the steps. Only 12 more sheets to go to finish the craft room. Already did the ceiling.
And put down 700 square ft. of solid oak flooring. Which I still have to sand and finish.
But 2 weeks ago we decided it was time for another mini vacation. So we spent 2 days at Victoria Bryant State Park. Then a trip through Helen Ga. for fudge and pastries on our way to Unicoi State Park for 2 more days. And finished off the last day at Anna Ruby Falls Park. All less than 2 hours from home.
We always plan our trips for leaving out Sunday evening or Monday morning and returning Thursday or Friday to avoid the weekend crowds. And to have the wife's boutique open on the weekends for the tourist.
Of course 8 days from now we have the Fall fashion show in Atlanta, which can be quite dangerous.
Imagine thousands of models and booth babes + 100,000 to 150,000 other women dressed in their finest and sexiest attire . THERE EVERYWHERE!!!! THERE EVERYWHERE!!!!! 😀

could say a combo of both.

Sorry i haven't comment in a long long while. Just been so busy, haven't had the time to really be on the forums nor really be able keep up with the news going on over at F@H. Just enough time to read whats on toms hardware main page and that's about it.

Currently still at job corps and its slow going since I seem to be fixing every little computer/tech issue that's comes up (I swear that I'm an underpaid staff at this point) and also a part time Wild Land fire fighter which I "could be" heading out to one of these fires here soon (currently have some of my friends from Job Corps fighting the fire(s) in the State of Washington).

Although I am getting close to completing this IT trade at this job corps (Almost 2/3 of the way done) and now that i've taught (or still teaching) a decent amount of my IT peers the common issues that appear on that center, I'm hoping that I can speed myself along though the trade and should be done in a few months (guessing before Thanks Giving).

Still going to be called on those more "advance/uncommon issues" but hey, what can you expect when someone that learned most of the skills already before heading in to this trade? (thanking all the guys here on this forum for teaching me the ways since i joined in 2009 😉 ).

I sold all my gear again, well most of it, kept a 280X so I can game while watching the baby.

Transferred rig into lounge, bit difficult to fold when its set up in there, was all set up in garage until I got rumbled.

Thinking Ill be needing a bigger house soon so hopefully that will include an office for me.

Really hot here at the minute but not a nice heat, good to hear from you all.

I noticed your PPD suddenly got stabbed in the heart! :lol:I did wonder why.

 I had wondered if any Southern Hemispherers would chime in.

Nothing too exciting on my end. Just starting to plan computing resources for the coming year. I guess I did pick up a couple 750 Tis (Maxwell).

Can't mean me as I'm a Northerner in this instance.

What's the PPD on one of those?

Yeah, I meant randomizer (just too lazy to quote).

I'm really impressed with the 750Ti considering it is not a new process. TDP is 60W (so no external power connector) and I think it uses a decent bit less than that while folding.

PPD is great, when it works. Unfortunately being that it is so new, there are either some OpenCL driver glitches or some tweaks needed to Core 17 to make it work on all Projects (some projects it works great, others it instantly crashes). Runs really cool too, even in small form (I have two of: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487024 ). There is a new folding core in development, which at least for now has a CUDA version. With the CUDA core (and the BOINC CUDA projects) the card runs perfectly.

Anyway, to answer your question, on the projects that the 750Ti could run, it got 60-80k PPD. So I'm pretty excited for big Maxwell 😀

Nice! And yes I know you were referring to Random but I'm childish [:mousemonkey:2] and also welcome to my world on the new card front, I now have a stable driver for the 7790 and it is managing 45-50k a day (which is a little disappointing) but it doesn't suprise me that the 750Ti's are having problem as the WU's that my 660Ti's are getting are not fully recognised by HFM for starters and I have had a couple of random restarts in the last couple of months as well.

Ah, that reminds me, there is good news on the HFM front. Harlam is really close to the long promised update that fixes a bunch of old bugs as well as making it compatible with the 7.4.x client. Also, if a Project isn't being recognized you can try manually syncing (Tools > Download from Stanford).

Well while it has been cold here in NZ, the rain has been washing the snow off the mountain. Hopefully there will be some snow this coming week so I can get on my board. I am not holding my breath for this coming weekend, but want to get down there asap as it will be a short season.

Apart from that, just working and planning overseas travels for next year. Hopefully Fiji and America.

I just got back from a week at the beach with the kids. It sounds like we cruised through loco's neck of the woods on the way there and back and I have the peaches in my fridge to prove it. 😀

60K from 60W is fairly amazing. I am looking forward to the next gen of cards as well.

I've been on a folding hiatus for a while. The heatwave in Northern Europe has been intense, and my power bill was getting a bit scary. I pay a set amount every month and then the difference from actual usage is paid once a year - so instead of paying an extra $10, 20, 30 every month it becomes another $100, 200, 300 in one go. Plus power costs are just really high this side of the pond. Maybe I should have waited for Maxwell, but my 6850 really was showing its age.

I'll start up again sometime this fall. At least I can tell myself the heat from the power usage isn't wasted (unless the weather decides to sort of skip winter again).

Board? BOARD??? (blasphemy...)

No new gear on my part, but for folding, I've heard some unidentified rumors around here (NIH) that folding data could be used in more applications. Make what you will of that.

Have you tried MSI Afterburmer or EVGA Precision?
If those do not work you may need to flash the bios to gain more control of fan speeds.

Next time you are through you need to see some of the countryside around these parts.
Get off the freeway . We have a lot of State and Federal parks that are amaysing. Plus stopping at the parks pays the bills and keeps them OPEN.
My wife and I now travel more ,every few months we take 2 to 5 days off and visit a park somewhere.
We upgraded to a larger motor home and the wife says we have to visit all of the parks again to fill in the door map. Plus they are almost empty if you go during the week

I can post a few pics of places along your route. Most people think of Georgia from the military camps in southern part of the state. The middle and northern part are completely the opposite.
What is good pic hosting site?

I've only run Afterburner on AMD cards. I used EpX on my Nvidia card.
The default fan speed and fan curve will go below 55%, and I recently got the card to go under 55% fan speed with a curve but it will not let me manually set it to under 55% with the slider. It's a GB 7970 with the better cooler.
I have to say, it's a lot quieter and cooler than my 770 was. Though the 770 was clocked at 1332Mhz while the AMD only goes to 1050. It might be a power difference.
