Glad to know your hardware is safe and well cared for (custom fan speed), just wanted to get the word out as a genuine warning since F@H can make a GPU quite hot on stock fan speed.

For those who did not download the driver before Friday there should not be a problem as it has been withdrawn and is not available anywhere on the web (or shouldn't be), those who did download and install it would it seems either had a problem almost immediately or like myself not at all. The odd thing is my 9500GT which does not run a custom fan profile and is the card that mainly does the F@H is not suffering any overheating issues on the 196.75 driver.

Well imho, the 9500gt is a pretty cool card and there are fanless versions of it already. Maybe if you were running an 8800GT or something higher then it might be a real problem.

Keep em' foldin!

I decided to give folding a try. I only set up the single core client, but it'll be running close to 24/7 on my Athlon II X4 in the background since I really don't need 4 cores 95% of the time I'm on the computer.

Welcome... Alwayse glad to have the help :bounce:

I am running a pair of 8800GT's in SLi and F@H on the 196.75 driver, does that count?

Give SMP2 with passkey a try, it is relatively easy to set up as a service and the bonus point for early completion are just crazy !

Tried, I still can't get it working on more than one thread, I also can't get all the command prompt stuff to set up right. I can't figure out how to set my team, user name, or any other settings. All I can manage after several hours of tinkering is one dos window popping up that says working 0/2500000......0% at the bottom. (might have the wrong number of 0's, but it's a large number). To sum it up I've got no clue how to set it up, and I can't find a worth while guide that gets me through my problems or explains jack.

Personally I think it would be easier and quicker to just install a number of virtual machines to fold on, than even mess with that SMP client as it's anything but user friendly.

I guess you're lucky?

Have you tried the forum post of theirs?
http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1783

Though I have tried setting up the smp client and also have quite failed at making it work.

* The 6.22 setup guide might help: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=4609

Wow. First it took me several hours to even get the smp working, and it ended on working with only one core without using my user information. Than with further tweaking I managed to get it to use my user name/team data but upon completeing tasks and uploading them, nothing has changed on my statistics online. Than while trying to get it to work with more than one core, I completely broke it and would get an IO error every time I ran it. Now out of some form of luck, I've got it pushing my Athlon II X4 630 at 100%, so hopefully it keeps working and actually records my work.

If I F@H will I see a difference while playing game in FPS on Crysis?

Can I take the my record from F@H and post it on here?

Will I be able to choose when it decides to go on-line and off-line?

Do I have to have it on all the time or can I turn it off once and a while?

Sorry about my questions, but I really think my computer can help this project.

System spec's:

GPU: GTX260 1GB
CPU:AMD Atholon II x 2 @ 3.0Ghz
RAM: 2x1GB Sticks, 2x512MB Sticks = 3GB's Dual channel.
Wifi Card: N Wireless 65mbps
HDD: 160GB 7200RPM SATA
Gigabyte gaming motherboard(Not sure of the name right now)

^will post motherboard if you would like to know.

Do you think I would be a good F@H helper?

Yes, if you use the GPU client or the CPU client chances are your framerates will plummet.

If you like.

Yes, just check the box to make it ask before connecting.

You will have total control over when it runs and can start or stop it whenever you choose.

Yes, absolutely.

Is it possible to get the GPU running at ~90% but without impacting the CPU too much?
Unless gaming my 4870 sits on 600 core 450 mem clocks. Current;y my CPU is at 33%.

And how do I join the Tom's team? And will running F@H for !4-5 hours a day (thats my limit.....dad refuses to let me leave the machine on longer, says it will distract me from studies) damage the GPU/CPU?
And what's a WU? And how is the scoring done?

I have 3 systems I am going to switch over and run for toms a bit to help out getting the score back up.

I have 3 systems and a 4th I'm putting together now. Also, I am working on my sons system and will set his up for folding prior to sending it back to his house. 4 are quad systems and each have the following vid cards: 5770, 8800GTX ACS3, 8800GTS & a hybrid crossfire 3450 & onboard 4200. I'm not so sure how it will pan out with the hybrid crossfire but we will see.

The last system is a dual core and an undetermined video card. I will likely get a decent one after I get it up and running.

I do dread the power bill as I leave mine on 24/7...

Folding is just like playing a game, though it would appear like you're playing all the time. If you're not confident on the brand or sturdiness of your video card (because it is a very cheap brand), then cpu might be your thing. But the gpu client does score quite a lot more points than the cpu client though.

Yes, tom's was once in the 50~60 rank when it comes to teams. Some people may have just transferred to other teams or maybe just forgot about folding.

Mine's an XFX 4870. My second. It's my first half decent gaming rig, so I don't know much about XFX. Is it good? I took it as it was the only brand I could find in the shops. Few people buy ATI in Calcutta- everyone has a sort of complex about Intel and nVidia. My previous rig (if you can call it that) was a P4 Northwood, 2.0GHz, 256 DDR1 206MHz, GeForce 5500 256 MB. I strongly suspect Crysis killed off the first 4870. Lasted 30 minutes without problems- then it would lock up the second it hit 86. This one goes past 95 with no stability problems (in Crysis. Hits 81 in everything else). And no, this is not a temperature issue. Ambient is ~40 Celsius.
