desktop , go to properties then display properties comes up then go to
appearance and click effects from there you'll see a box that says use this
method to smooth edged of screen fonts from there click clear type instead of
standard and you'll see the difference it's like night and day really! Good

I changed my setting to Clear Type and it did make a lot of difference on my
desktop icon fonts but the font on everything else (Outlook Express, Word,
etc.) still seem a little blurred. Is there another setting someplace to
help with that? Thanks

Revisit the page I posted, click on and read all of the topics under
"Settings" and "LCD vs. CRT Displays".

FYI: There is a downloadable version of the ClearType Tuner available on
the PowerToys for XP page. You can run it anytime - don't need to be
connected to the internet to use it:

Thanks, I tried it and it did help with the blurry type.

I have noticed that some fonts seem to be worse than others. In addition, I
am finding that I must maintain a certain distance from the monitor so that
I can focus properly with my glasses just as if I was reading from paper.

It's the sudden stop:(

I wear glasses too so I thought that maybe some of it was my eyes. I
changed the font in my e-mail to that Verdana font and that seems to make it
somewhat better. I went through the ClearType tuner and it is somewhat
better but now it seems that the type is almost bold. I guess I chose the
wrong type. I will try to run it again later on. Thanks for the info
though because I was regretting getting the flat screen monitor because of
the blurry type.

You're welcome, Phyllis. I use ClearType too but find that I need to use
the tuner to get it "just right."
