Hello,
Does anyone know how to force XP to use a particular
driver when it finds "new hardware"?

In particular, I am trying to use a Compact Flash GPS on
a laptop. The GPS manufacturer refuses to do any
development in order that XP will recognize the card. The
GPS manufacturer says the device has an "underline (_)"
in the hardware name and XP cannot identify this. When XP
finds the now hardware and I force it to use a particular
driver the GPS works fine. The problem is that you have
to locate the driver for XP to use every time you tunr
the laptop on or insert the GPS.

I hope this makes sense and thanks for any input.

This is not normal. After you install a driver for compact flash card once, it is
supposed to
just work aferwards in the same slot (inserting in other slot may require to
install again, but
most machines have no more than two slots).
Can you please elaborate what exactly is the "device name" and what the GPS
manufacturer
replied.

The GPS is a Teletype Model 1358. According to the
manufacturer, there is an "_" (underscore) in the device
name which is not identified by the OS due to a bug in XP.

Thanks,
Dean
