[SOLVED] Format without losing data

I am going to get a new motherboard next week and install Windows 10. I will install Windows to an SSD which doesn't have any personal data. I also have an internal HDD which has all my files in it. Will I be able to only format the SSD or is it necessary to do both of them?

Formatting a drive will kill all data.

When you go to install windows, remove the HDD to avoid damaging your data. Then create a partition on the ssd to install windows on. Windows will then repartition to its needs.

Even if I don't delete any partitions from the HDD, it will be formatted?

No, if you don't touch it in the installer your data will still be there.

However, i suggest removing the drive just so you can't accidentally destroy the data on the drive.
