I seemto have problem running with either HDMI cable or VGA connection. I thought you could use either one but sometimes I cannot get either one to work. Any ideas?

What make/model of video card are you using?
When dealing with cables, always make sure your connectors are properly seated.

also make sure that you are using the right input selection, there should be a button on the front of the monitor which looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing into it
