No life story because my life is too short for a story. A word of advice "They say your life flashes by you when you die: Make sure it is worth watching."

~Ibrahim~

Awsome quote man........ and good to see so many Aussies

27 and from holland, I started off with a 486 DX4-66 which I promptly messed up (del *.* in root, anyone?)

After this I progressed to an AMD DX-133, which I managed to overclock to 200mhz for about 3 months before it predictably melted down =P

I had a cyrix processor next, what a POS that was (but cheap), then there's a bit of a vague area untill I can remember getting a celeron 450 (overclocked to 550), a pentium 750 (overclocked to 900), AMD 1700, AMD 2600 and now I'm building a D805 machine (which to date is still not working, dammit!).

I work in IT myself as an Altiris consultant and my home usage is strictly limited to some music and gaming, I used to be fairly obsessive about getting maximum performance out of my rigs, now I'm just happy when it's perfectly stable (give me stability over speed any day), altho I quite fancy the overclocking potential of the D805, which honestly is the only reason I bought it in the first place...... I guess it's tough to go cold turkey on messing with your rigs 😉

Didn't read my earlier post then. My father is 71 has been building his own computers since about 1992 and 2 years ago built the following
AMD 2600+ CPU
Gigabyte M/B
512ram
Nvidia 256Mb FX5200 Graphics card
DVD burner
Just went on a trip to visit his daughters and rang about advice on sharing printers on a network.
The oldies? who complain about computers are using it as an excuse. Also have an uncle who is 68 (I think) who's not to shabby. :)

I'm 33, married, one dog (90 lbs golden retriever), one cat (black - only moderately evil) and living in Chicago.

On a side note, if anyone is using Broadvoice for VOIP, please PM me - I have a few questions about their service that I'd like to ask a user.

Wow, a lot of the members here aren't that ignorant as some people claim. That's for sure.

What made you think we were ignorant?

Edit: Actually, I guess what I should really be asking is, what made those people think we were ignorant?

I'm not sure. I know there was quite a few threads that a lot of people were claiming most people that post don't know what they are talking about and i was just pointing out they aren't as ignorant as they claim was all. Maybe they just post in some threads they should have just read instead of trying to post. Lol.

'tis the nature of forums, me thinks :) Especially here: "Not only am I smarter than you, but you're ignorant to boot."

You just have to pay attention to what people say, and never forget that people are NEVER right all the time. There are some really bright people here, though, and there are some people who just like to pick fights (i.e. trolls). Just make sure you don't mistake post-count for competence :)

You're right. There is some good advice and knowledge here, but there also some things I've been told that were incorrect and just plain wrong.

You always have to do your own research and trust your own judgements, thinking and/ or feelings sometimes.

But this thread impressed me with the diversity, knowledge and maturity (mostly) displayed. There are lots of international people here. I'm impressed by that. I think there are some really intelligent and capable people here.

As corny as it sounds, I think our mutual love of computers brings us together somewhat.

Im 18 and from Eureka, Illinois (this "s" is silent...). I have built 2 rigs for my self so far. My original being an Athlon XP 3000+, 512MB ram, 80GB hd, 6600GT...... my current one is an Athlon 64 3700+, 1GB ram, 160GB hd and 80GB hd, X1900XTX.

Beyond that, I have helped 2 friends build a rig, as well as helped one of them upgrade.

Geek squad? :)

I've met some really good geek squad guys.
IIRC Geek Squad started out as a few computer nerd dudes who decided to make a business. Just some people like some of us with a passion for computers (whatever their flavor) Word got around and BestBuy bought them. In a nutshell.

I've built 40+ systems mostly business class models PIII's and recently Sampron 3100's)
I'm not a computer tech guy (MS in Mechanical Engineering) and I run the US Operations for a Canadian Aviation Interiors Company. So, not all posters in TG are IT guys or kids. We just have a passion for building things that go fast!
