I've had this issue were I'm playing games and after a hour or so my fps tends to drop and stay at 5-10 frames and the only way i fix the frames is by shutting off my laptop and waiting 5-15 minutes before turning it on again.
These are my specs
  • 15.6in Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS 144Hz Gaming Display, Intel Core i5-11400H 2.7GHz Hexa Core Processor w/ 4.5GHz Turbo, 12 Threads, 12MB Smart Cache, 10nm, 45W
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 3D Graphics Card, 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD I added a 1tb stick
  • 8GB DDR4 2666MHz Memory I also added another 8GB ddr4 stick

It is almost certainly due to overheating. Manufacturers of lower-end laptop tend to cut lots of corners especially when it comes to proper cooling which is already hard enough as is on such a small form factor. Pair this with your GPU/CPU most likely trying to overclock automatically to makeup for its lack of power and your system cooks itself. Had the same exact problem years ago with an Acer Predator that had a 2060. They put no power/voltage limiter on the components in anyway, letting the system overclock both only stopping once the CPU hit 100C or GPU hit 90C, not only destroying the battery but made multiple keys on the built in keyboard become unresponsive from what I'd presume to be ever so slightly melted components. Try looking into your manufactures program, for example mine is MSI Center, and it should hopefully have some settings related to "gaming mode" or overclocking. Disabling those will lead to slightly lower FPS in general, but with hopefully less drops.
