You bought a P4!!! wow, I wouldn't be too concerned with overclocking that beast, atleast not yet. I hope you do CAD work, otherwise you bought major overkill, (although it will be a great system for years to come). If you don't have it yet, don't get it. And if you got it for games, you might have to wait awhile before it becomes as optimized for them as the T-Bird is. But hey, it's your money...do what makes you happy!

What a waste! I would have spent that money on an Athlon Thunderbird system that will outperform the P4 in almost all situations. The P4 is a new platform as well, lets just hope that problems don't come up like they did for the P3 1.13Ghz CPU and the i820/i840 chipsets, or the MTH issue. What you did is kind of like buying a first year production car with no testing, you my friend have just become a BETA tester for INTEL!!! You must have money to burn, otherwise I assume you would have researched that damn thing and realized that by the time applications become optimized for the P4, SSE2 code, Intel will be selling them at 2Ghz for much much less. In the mean time, if you have not had the system for long TAKE IT BACK and get a Athlon Thunderbird and enjoy the performance advantage now! As for overclocking the P4, it may not be possible with the platform, motherboard, you have in the system, so be patient if you intend to be a BETA tester!!!

thanks for flaming me and intel and claiming i know nothing about computers. Oh yeah, I also didn't research at all before spending $3,000+ on a new computer (sarcasm if you didn't get the hint). Please send me results of tests you personally have performed with the p4 or what you think about it (in your own use, not that of hardware reviewers or friends). I am really sorry that find it necessary to be upset at my purcahse of a new computer because I have $3,000 to do so. Has it ever occured to you that I can't wait for a 8 months to buy a computer because it'll be better then? If I were to do that, I would still be stuck with a friggen apple IIe. If you would like more opinions about my p4, please let me know. If you judge a computer by the processor's benchmark scores, I feel sorry for you. Now that I think about it, I don't really know why I posted this thread in Tom's forum since most people are biased in favor of AMD and don't like to hear out other people's opinions. Thanks for your time though!

OK, calm down-Use Sisoft Sandra to try to identify the clock generator, then Soft FSB if it works with that clock generator. I do think that buying a computer on a platform that's being phased out in 3 months is not such a hot investment, but they do perform well.

sorry...i get hyper when i just had 4 pepsis in like 15 minutes...but anyway, how can I tell if sandra recognizes my clock generator? I'm not very comfortable with the program and can't seem to figure it out! Thanks in advance

I'm not that comfortable with it either, someone will eventually answer. But my friend uses it on an older system and goes from 566 to 663! He showed me how but I can't remember the details.
