I want to build me a new system. Now I've heard the rumour that the upcoming new AMD's (T-birds) won't support 'ordinary' SDRAM, but only DDR-SDRAM. Is it true? If it is, I'll have to change my mind and build me a DDR-SDRAM-system.

You can get the ali-majik chipset that supports both types...at least some of them do. The Asus A7A266 does.

Whoever told you that is full of crap. Memory support isn't in the CPU- it's in the chipset. The t-birds and Palomino's both support Single Data Rate RAM. Now, why you would use SDRAM is beyond me- DDR SDRAM is well price and faster.

memory support is in the chipset, not in the processor. i guess all chipsets for AMD processors are DDR at the cpu end. its the chipsets that allows you to use whatever memory you like to use. one can even build a chipset to support RDRAM with AMD, as there are chipsets from VIA and ALi that support DDR for the intel platform. even intel is developing a DDR chipset, the Almador.

if you are really worried about your memory, then go for a ALiMAgik based board like A7A266 or a SiS735 based one like A7S, which will support both. i dont know about A7S, but A7A266 sure has two separate banks for DDR and SDR sticks. of course, you cant use them both at a time.
