Future Proof system ?

I have an amd system right now that is Am2 socket my mobo is Asus M2N-E N-force 570 Ultra Chipset , will this work with the new desktop version of the Barcelona ? And if so what will be the down side to using this mobo with one of these New CPUs ?

well it is said that AM2+ support HT3 , so u can use AM2+ with your motherboard but with HT2 , also no one knows that exact specs of AM2+ ( i think u meant AM2+ right ?)

yes I did mean am2+ cant wait !! And what kind of performance increase do you think i will get with this new cpu ? Im also thinking about getting a 2900pro to replace my 1950pro ?

well as i said no one knows how AM2+ CPUs will be , there are no official benchmarks of it , also for graphic card, 2900pro seems a very good option, but what is your budget ?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe that I read somewhere that AM2+ will work on the most recent Nvidia and ATI chipsets, with a BIOS update. The current motherboards and chipsets will not be able to utilize the full power saving potential of the new chip because the memory controller and the cores are on separate power planes.

Well Im in canada and I got my 1950pro for like $185 like 2 months ago and now its worth like 179.00 , I could sell it for like 120.00 or i would just throw it in my media pc , 300-350 is the most ill spend on a graphics card , and that doesnt even get me an 8800GTS 320 down here !!! on average there all around 350.00 I saw the 2900Pro 512 for $318.00 and the 2900Pro 1gig for $369.00 but im going to wait for the benhies to come out on crysis to come out cause im not really impressed with this last generation of vid cards from either camp!!! I dont think there was a big enough jump im performance !!!

Does m2r also support the new phenom cpus? cause i JUST bought my mobo and i don't want it obsolete in like 3 months of use.

if AM2+ is phenom , then it will support, u'll have to wait

Not all AM2 boards is sure to be able to use a AM2+ processor as it requiers a BIOS update. The loss of using an AM2 board will be no HT3(not supposed to make any diffrence unless you have a multi processor system) and that the power savings won't be as effective.

Have a look at this pressrelease from ASUS http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=8305 if your MB is on the list you can be sure that ASUS will make the nessersary BIOS update for it. If you dont have an ASUS card it's likely that your MB maker will make one for the same chipsets.

you cant... something will always be obsolete shortly after you get it, either due to advancements in technology, or due to buggy product/pulled from manufacturing.

you can delay the inevitable, but not prevent it.

Yes, I checked ASUS and their M2R will support Phenom with a BIOS update. It just won't support HT3. I've been considering the M2R32-MVP mobo and a 5000+ CPU as an upgrade for my old 939 4400+ machine, with the possibility of then putting a Phenom chip in the M2R. If I knew that AMD was going to deliver the Phenom next month and have it readily available, I'd just wait for that, but AMD has had so many product delays and lack of availability lately that I may just buy now, rather then wait.

I when i said future proof I just ment a system that i wouldnt have to scrap after like 1 year I have been building my own pcs way to long to know that you always have to upgrade !!!
