FX5700U or R9600XT?

OK, that clears up a lot. Thank you very much.

The EXTREME version is described at http://www.gigacube.com.tw/mediaRoom.php?news=18. My impression was that it comes with 750 (375) already... But not sure, anyone able to tell from the article?

Anyway, the company with the links I gave you is in NSW, whereas I am in Victoria. So, I would either order from them and pay a bit extra in freight, or I would try and get a local store to import it and sell it to me at the same price.

I have to wait for the stores to open again though. The main store that I'm getting stuff from opens on the 12th, and I'm hoping that prices are going to be around $50 lower by then.

About the Gigacube warranty though. I could not at all find what the warranty was for the cards on their site. Anyone who already has a Gigacube 9600XT know what it is or where I can find it out?

One more thing, would Overclocking the memory increase the much lower bandwidth the 9600XT has?

Yes the bandwidth is a function of the speed of the memory and the width of the memory pathway (64/128/256bit) plus the number of times the memory is accessed per clock cycle (DDR vs regular SDRAM). With the memory running @ 375mz the bandwidth would increase from the XT's reference stock of 9.6GB/s to 12.0GB/s, compared to the FX5700Ultra's stock 14.4GB/s. While the numbers would seem to favour the FX outright, the ATI will make more efficient use of that increased bandwidth IMO. I would love to see the effects, I know what going from 400/300(600) to 500/350(700) does for my card.

OK, thanks. That's really really good then.

Oh, BTW, in your previous post, you said that the 9600AIW had a stock speed of 325MHz... IS that a pro or XT? Or from some company?

I'm gonna try my best to get the XT, however, I haven't been able to find any shops in Melbourne that stock it. I'll have to wait for the shops to reopen before I can find out if they will get it in for me.

I'm pretty reluctant to get it from another state, because according to you guys, Gigacube's cards screw up easier and it'd be a big hassle trying to send it back to the store and then getting another one. So yeah, fingers crossed...

One final question though. About the Gigacube warranty. I could not find it on their site at all! I looked through the FAQs, the support/drivers page (which seems to be only drivers) and they don't have a search feature. So, I know some of the previous posters have the Gigacube 9600XT, anyone know what the company warranty policy is, or where I can get detailed information on it from? I found their email address, but my email has screwed up... so I can't contact them that way... So if you could help me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

The R9600Pro AIw is the multimedia card, it has built in tv tuner, fm tuner, remote control etc. Unless you're looking for a multimedia box then it's a little more than you need. It is a R9600Pro at heart though, just with faster stock clocked memory. The only makers that I know of the R9600AIW are HIS and Built By ATI. I know Hercules makes other models. However I would stay away from them because you would likely pay more for them, and unless you need those features it would likely be a waste. They also tend to be slow at lowering their prices when compared to their other card-only brethren.

Don't know bout GeXcube's warranty perhaps someone like CoolS or another GC owner could tell you what their standard warranty is.

Oh that's what it is. Nah, I don't need an AIW... OK, I'll give CoolS a PM.

EDIT: I tried sending a PM to CoolS, but it said there was an error. Is CoolS the full name?<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by Yangster on 01/07/04 06:41 PM.</EM></FONT></P>

Sorry his nickname isn't actually CoolS, that's just my contraction of it. I wasn't expecting you to PM him, just the opposite actually.

Coolsquirtle is the full nickname. I'm not sure his policy on PMs, I was hoping to elicit his illicit and implicit involvement by mentioning his name, like speaking of the darkest arch angel and he appears.

Make sure you mention this thread, as I see he hasn't participated in it, and may feel at a disadvanatage if you outright ask him without reference point to bring him up to speed.

There are a few others out there with Gigacube cards and I'm surprised they haven't replied. If you get no reply from CoolS then try just titling a thread "how long is Gigacube's warranty?"

Good Luck! On all counts.

Well, the new thread idea didnt' work too well, I only got 7 views... Please guys, anyone except TheGreatGrapeApe still reading this thread?

Maybe I'll PM Coolsquirtle, if know one else knows...

Oh, OK, then... you mean that some of you bought the Gigacube without finding out what the warranty was!?

If that's the case, could one of you do me a really really big favour (actually it's not that big)? My email still isn't working properly, so if someone could ask Gigacube and then tell me, I'd really really appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks!!

And, I guess that's the standard warranty right? Like, as long as I don't smash it with a sledge hammer or something right? Are there any very nasty exceptions that I should know about? Once again thanks! If there's no particularly nasty condition, 1 year is good enough.

BTW, why did you get a Radeon if you're an nVidia fan? Was the Gigacube so bad that it put you off Radeons?
