Im building a second computer to use as a streaming slave. I used to have a second machine with a 3770k in it like i have in my gaming machine. Im looking at what would be the most effective/cost effective combination here, between a fx8350+970mobo or just a new intel, (which i know nothing about.) Im looking at 300 dollars between the 8350 and the MSI 970 gaming mobo that i want, and seeing these Haswell CPU's for around 220 or so, im wondering if there is a model that i can pair with a 80 dollar motherboard that would get me better performance for the job, for the price?

any advice would be greatly appreciated here. thank you.

Solution
There is no scenario in which I would get any FX cpu at this point.

The 1230v2 is based off of the 3770 so it would not outperform the 3770k but it would at least be similar.
The 1231v3 is based off of the 4770 and it's clocked a little faster than the 1230v2 so it's like ~15% stonger

What about the CX series do you dislike? I think i have the Enthusiast one right now and i havent had any issues with corsair PSU's.

This here is making the FX option look a little more enticing, especially if it will do the same job as the xeon build, no?

Not all Corsair psus are bad. The CX series is mediocre at best and are not recommended for any serious builds like gaming or something that is going to be on all the time.

The FX8350 is inferior in every way to the Xeon and will not "do the same job" the Xeon will. You would have to overclock every inch of it to even almost compete which means you would need a much better motherboard than that MSI and a really good aftermarket cooler. By that time, you'd have spent almost as much of not more than the Xeon would have cost but the FX would be pumping well over 200w and would make a nice heater for your bedroom.

If you are looking for cost cutting this would work.

Or if you are into really old parts like the FX8350 this would still be a better option.

but would one really need to overclock an 8350 to be able to stream video at 720p60 at a level of (what is it like.. fast/normal/slow) etc? Is the reality that the xeon can power through that no problem and would be efficient at doing so, and that the FX would need to be overlcoked and running with fans full blast, (which would add to background noise) just to do the job in the first place? Or at least at a setting which allowed for good quality at a lower bitrate. (is that how it works? because that is just my assumption, that using the CPU to do more encoding allows you to use a lower bitrate because it compresses the video stream to a smaller, more effecient bitrate which allows for better fast motion at lower upload bitrates?) i know some, about a lot, but not a lot about some, if that makes sense. lol

What do you think about this? Should i be concerned with the "B" in the name of the processor? someone mentions it in the "questions answered" portion, something about amazon error? idk. But one review says something about "an i7 without the video chip" does that mean i wouldnt be able to run integrated video with one of these?

The B is not an error. That is the B series psu by EVGA and they are "alright." A little better than the Corsair CX series but not as good as the XFX I suggested.
I told you a while ago that the e3-1231v3 did not have an igpu. You must use a video card with it.

I meant the B in the Xeon lol, sorry.

You could also get an FX-8320 and overclock it to FX-8350 speeds, although if you go with the 8350 you will be able to clock it higher.

Here's what I would get for an FX-8350 streaming system. Note that there really aren't any FX-series motherboards with built-in graphics:

And don't worry about buying from Newegg. I have actually had more problems from Amazon than from Newegg.
