G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HK - Awesome ram, awesome price

Hi, I've odered two kits of these because the price was very good at just £43 here:

I decided to look up some reviews on it , and was absolutely gobsmacked when I came across this one:

It does up to 1020 Mhz @ 4-4-3-5,
up to 1140 Mhz @ 5-5-5-15
and up to 1200 Mhz at 5-6-6-18

I'll test this myself once all my hardware arrives, but dont think I'll dare to go that high, it just doesnt seem right or safe for a pair of £43 ram modules to do these insane speeds!

I'll be extremely happy with 1000 Mhz @ 4-4-3-5, wish me luck.

If your in the UK, I would advise you to get some of this before the price goes up.

They are relatively brand new in the UK, not many people have them here. Hopefully I can be the first to write up a mini review though I have to wait for some E8400's to arive.

Overclock heaven on the cheap? It only cost me £340 and I should make £250-300 back from selling my old hardware and a couple of old phones I have.

My current 2GB of PC3200 is still operating fine at 500 Mhz 2.5-2-3-5 timings at 1.80v. G Skill make great quality Ram.

You cant replace G skill heatspreaders without voiding the lifetime warranty so its not worth it. I remember I had 4x512 geil BHX ram that wouldnt overclock past
440 Mhz and reviews were easilly getting 550-600 mhz with them. I sent a message to geil about this and they said in crazy spanglish that although the ram was only gauranteed for 400 mhz 2225, they would happilly replace it, but they couldnt promise if the new ones would be any faster or slower. So I looked around and sold them for £80 per pair while buying the G skill ones for £164 XD. I love to sell and upgrade. As long as you get quality parts the prices stay the same or skyrocket after the product is discontinued.

Plus the G skill heatspreaders look awesome. I wanted black or lime green ones, but the silver ones are really nice too. My k850i will be happy snapping for my write ups once they arrive XD.

I'll test one pair at a time, and altogether and try and do a super write up on budget overclocking about the ram, mobo, and CPU together.

Update -

I got my stuffs, and can confirm that these sticks are incredible. I'm only using one pair at the moment as my PC wont boot up with 4 gig untill I update my motherboards bios, but heres what I got. Also, my Motherboard doesnt support a Tras value of lower then 9, so I have to stick to 4-4-3-9 for now:

1000 Mhz @ 4-4-3-9, 2.2v
1110 Mhz @ 5-5-5-15, 2.3v
1180 Mhz @ 5-6-6-18, 2.4v

Above that it refuses to boot. I'm keeping them at 1000 Mhz as they have a higher bandwidth with the lower latencies. Lovely ram

I want to achieve 4-4-4-12 with long-term reliability, is it possible to maintain 4-4-4-12 for like 3 or more years or is it better to just settle on 5-5-5-18 ?????

I chose this ram because of the price to performance Ratio. It costs a mere £2-7 more then budget and mid range 2x1 Gb and had the best stock timings I have ever seen for DDR2 ram. I have heard about 3-4-3-8 timings, but have never seen this available to buy anywhere. Also there arent any 2x2 gig sets with decent timings like these.

Anyway I have some bandwidth results from sisoft sandra:

1020 Mhz @ 4-4-3-9 - 7.67 Gb/s
1066 Mhz @ 5-5-5-15 - 6.5 Gb/s
1120 Mhz @ 5-5-5-15 - 6.9 Gb/s

1180 Mhz blue screened oooops I'll try and find the complete stable maximum another time, hopefully something like 1166 will be fine.

It is obvious that this ram wants be kept at 1000 Mhz with stock timings for maximum efficiency. Moving up to 1066 requires to big a leap in timings and reduces performance as a result. 4-4-4-12 @ 1066 absolutely wouldnt work, alsthough I didnt try it 2.4v, this seems a bit too excessive for such a small gain over 1000 Mhz at tighter timings.

This ram is fantastic, at least untill 3-4-3-8 becomes available, I dont think anything else can touch this unless its running at over 1100 Mhz with 4-4-4-12, but something like that would cost a fortune.

I didnt see a need for 8 gig and dont think there will be for another few years, 4 gig is plenty of ram for now.

Well this is good to know. I bought 2Gigs of G.SKILL PC6400 for my new build. I went with the 5-5-5-12 timings because after reading a lot about OCing I learned that looser timings were preferred on the RAM (makes it easier to OC, or say they say). I had to locate some with 1.8v anyway since the mobo I picked lists that as the specified voltage.

Comes in a nice shiny box.
