Question G.SKILL Trident Z 3600MHz & 4000MHz working with Ryzen 2000 on MSI B450?

Hey guys, this is my 2nd option for upgrade, so I made a different topic. I found good prices on some G.Skill memory, but I need to know if they are compatible with my setup (see my signature).

The 3600Mhz kits are said to be compatible (officially) only with B550 MB & Ryzen 3000, these are the kits:

The 4000Mhz kits only have Intel as compatible, but these are the best price/performance for me and I would like these if possible:

Why am I bothering with these if they are not officially supported? Because my current memory kit is not officially supported and not only does it run, I managed to OC it too.

So basically I'm asking if someone has used one of these kits in combination with Ryzen 2000s and B450 MB.

I've heard from the YouTuber i follow that with 1st 2nd gen of CPU it's best to go with upto 3200mhz. And also it's not exactly worth buying 4000mhz as the infinity fabric can go upto 3733Mhz and that it adds latency then, so my recommendation would be to try your luck with 3600 kit and if it causes BSOD you can underclocked it to maybe 3400 +&- or whatever is stable for you. And if you are planning it for gaming then don't expect a lot of difference, it'll only show a difference when your memory was the limitation,which in most cases isn't.

But like my current Crucial kit, which is also not officially supported, I was hoping someone who uses one of those kits can tell me how it works - in combination with an MSI B450 MB and a Ryzen 2000 series.

I'm mostly interested into the 4000Mhz kit because later this year I plan to upgrade to Ryzen 5000, so I want to use it now and later too, even if now I need to use it at lower speed.

Oh buddy let me show you a simple math
Cl*2000/ram frequency=overall memory speed
In your case,
Stock
15*2000=30000/3000=10 nanosecond
Oc
18*2000=36000/3600=10 nanosecond
So your overall speed is the same and from what ik from others that memory compatibility was an issue with Zen and Zen+ imo you have a really good memory and there's no need to invest on memory speed but you could definitely add more ram 'capacity' if required. Also keep the same kit for your ryzen 5000 series chip and oc it to 3600mhz cl18. And as i said going above 3733 is not worth. If you still want to get a ram stick then get 3600 with latency lower than 18 but again i believe it's not worth your hard earned money you won't even notice it most cases.

You're pretty much right. Although the 3600 CL18 OC is a little faster depending on the game.
In AC Odyssey 3066 CL15 vs 3600 CL18 is: 78/33/128 fps vs 80/34/138 fps (avg/min/max).

I have not tested other games, because I like to use the 3600Mhz OC anyway.

In synthetic benchmarks, like AIDA64, the difference is a little bigger in favor of the 3600Mhz OC:

In my previous topic I thought I can get a cheap 1% Low boost by adding another kit of 2x8GB same model memory and go from 2 sticks running SR (single rank) into 4 sticks running DR (dual rank). - I have a good price offer for that.

But yea, upgrading for a new premium kit of 4000MHz is actually too expensive for now to matter. I'll probably delay this upgrade.

PS. But I would still like to know if someone has this RAM + CPU + MB combo and how it works.

Also you got a good pair of ram thus it's stable at 3600 cl18, imo keep it for your Zen 3 CPU as there's no significant difference unless your ram was the bottlenecked which is highly unlikely.
Ps: benchmark will show the difference but practically while using it-Nope

I appreciate the help, but as I said in my other posts, I don't rely on neither manufacturers, RAM or MSI to give my the latest info about compatibility and OC performance. Their info is outdated or incomplete.

My current RAM kit from Crucial (see my signature) is not officially supported by them, yet not only does it work with my MB, but it works well OC-ed to 3600 CL18. I bought them not on impulse or to be a test subject, but after seeing an OC-ing guide with this exact kit (serial number ID) working with my MSI motherboard (it was actually Tomohawk Max, but it's the same).

That's why I made this topic, hopefully someone that uses one of those 2 memory kits sees this post and can confirm they are indeed working well with my MB+CPU.

It's a slim chance to find someone that uses those kits, but yeah... that was my reason.
