Hello all, I am new to the world of build-your-own PCs and thus far I am thoroughly enjoying it. Did A LOT of reading before selecting the various components and I am happy with the choices I made. I haven't attempted any sort of OC'ing yet and won't until I have a much more thorough understanding of what everything is and how the various components and settings affect each other. Peeking through the BIOS, I did come across something that I don't understand and that is the memory frequency. I have installed 8GB of G.Skill PC2 9600, which I understand runs at 1200MHz. Here's what I'm seeing in the BIOS, however:
Performance Enhance...................: [Turbo]
System Memory Multiplier ..............: Auto
Memory Frequency (Mhz) ..............: 1066Mhz
DRAM Timing Selectable ................: [Auto]
Why is the RAM only running at 1066MHz? Should this be changed to let the MB know that I have the PC2-9600 installed? If so, how does one go about doing that? Note, I haven't made any changes in the BIOS save for disk boot order and other minor things that don't affect the CPU or system performance, per say.
Here are my MB/CPU specs:
GA-X48-DS5
Intel Q9550
G.Skill PC2-9600 (8GB)
nVidia GeForce 6800GT (old card I'm using temporarily)
Finally, can anyone recommend very basic OC'ing settings for this setup? I don't want or need to go crazy, but feel like I should make changes just because I can 😛
