Hello, my brother recently purcahsed the galaxy s6 phone, white. Since it came today I noticed my internet was very slow and thus I did a pingtest scan and it came out with the pings outragously high. I told my brother it was his phone and explained that it was just downloading updates and so I said ok and didn't bother him until 12 hours later.

12 hours later the internet was still being outragously high.Normally my ping is between high 20s to low 40s , but it was 400-600 with packet loss and up to 100 jitter. Last year the same thing happened, but I don't know the cause and it fixed itself some how (For a whole year I had over 100 ping, up to 400 for no reason, but almost exactly a year later it fixed itself, I managed to get through it)

Anyways, I told him to turn the wifi off (Not using his actual plan internet, as he would go over his data usage quickly costing him much money), and the pings immediately dropped to normal pings with no packet loss whatsoever. So we figured out the s6 is the cause of the high ping, yet download speeds 'seem' normal (my internet is 15mbs unlimited from timewarner) equals to around 2 mb per second. Anyways we are planning on talking to customer support tomorrow when they open, but we all know how terribly customer support can be. Do any of you know a way to fix it? He has almost no apps at all, and browsing facebook or youtube doesnt seem to really increase ping at all, or it could, I just havent noticed. Anyways the last thing I want to do is make him return his phone, so any tips? Thanks

Try to connect your pc to your router wired and see if you still have issues. This would tell you if you are exceeding the internet capacity...ie the phone is downloading massive data... or if it is a wireless interference issue.

It could be as simple as your current wireless is very marginal and works fine as long as there is not another device. You would need to see if you can improve the quality of the wireless signal on your pc.

My pc is already connected to the router via ethernet cable. It doesn't tell me if I am exceeding the internet capacity, as my internet is Unlimited (I can download as much as I want no problem, 50 dollars a month) . My moms laptop, 2 android phones, 1 3ds xl, my computer, and my 3dsxl and kindle fire were all connected to the network and it ran perfectly, but once my brother tuns on the wifi it automatically skyrockets.

Not the total downloaded the rate it is downloading. It would be hard for a phone to download at 15m for extended periods of time.

So are you saying your wired pc get really high ping times when the phone is on. There is only 2 ways that can happen. The router has some defect either in software or hardware or the phone is downloading so much data it kills the internet connection. Maybe the phone has a app that will show you the rate it is using traffic.

It doesn't affect the download speed whatsoever. I can download something at our internets given download speed (Like on steam, I get 1.7mb per second which is usual, sometimes higher) This only affects ping . I dont think it has naything to do with the hardware because we had many other android phones on our network before including other things and ping was still normal

Mmkay so we contacted samsung support and now the guy is in our phone and is fixing it, we booted into safe mode and ping was fine, then booted up normally and ping is normal, so we are almost positive its a app, and we are deleting all unnecessary aps then 1by1 reinstalling them to see who is the culprit
