No GTA IV, No Crysis? Why is Left 4 Dead even in there? It's a forgone conclusion, we all know L4D is a fantastic game that you can get 60+ FPS on mainstream hardware...so why bother? Tom Clancy's HAWX...really? Who F'n cares about a game that 5% of THG readers will ever play! Please score GTA IV, and Crysis...we want to see these cards stressed...we could care less about seeing L4D getting 175 FPS on full with a GTX 295!

[citation][nom]glawk[/nom]Why test the 4770 and not the 4830?[/citation]
Especially when you've included the 3850?? I don't get it.

[citation][nom]glawk[/nom]Why test the 4770 and not the 4830?[/citation]
since there is no reason to buy a HD4830 since it is in the same price with HD4770 but performs better.

HD3850 on the other is cheaper compare to HD4770.

Last Remnant? Seriously? lame. I love the game, I'm playing it now, but it's got no way to produce consistent results. You can't even get the same effects per battle. and only 2 battles to average? No thanks. Try averaging 10 battles together.

Also, Why on god's green earth would you include a game that's 30fps limited? Seriously? There are SO many other RTS games that are very modern and aren't capped. You already had an Unreal3 engine game, why not do something else?

And no racing games? NFS and DiRT are both great games that are incredibly taxing on a GPU with pretty reproducbile results.

I appreciate the chart and there is definitely a lot of work that has gone into it, but if you revise this next year, please choose better games?

My recommendations, as of right now:

An Unreal3-based game that has very granular controls (not last remnant)
An Oblivion-based game (I like the Fallout Game, good choice!)
An HL2-based game (again, L4D is a great choice, too.)
A Popular racing game using a standard engine (IMO either DiRT using the Codemaster engine or NFS using their engine.)
A Popular RTS that isn't limited (Starcraft 2 Beta whenever it releases would be ideal, but something like Grand Ages: Rome or Dawn of War 2. They use modern and popular engines and will be around for a while. Even Command and Conquer Red Alert would work).

Just some suggestions. I mean, this is definitely very well done and very helpful, but not necessarily as meaningful as I'd hoped.

First of all thanks for all the hard work you put into these charts, i can only imagine the long painstaking hours of benchmarking.

But i couldn't help but notice that you don't have the 9800gt among the cards. Now i know that most people believe that the performance of the 8800gt and the 9800gt are exactly the same, but i know this to be false.

I have tested the 8800gt and the 9800gt on three different games and the 9800gt was way better.

I would love too see how it performs on all the benchmarks that you ran, and how it compares to other cards.

Aw looks like my cards finally aged off the list (8800GTS 640 SLI). Still gonna try to get another year out of them, but then it's time to upgrade. 😀

Grateful.

I agree on Last Remnant and disagree on Red Alert 3, it's also capped at 30 FPS and it's not demanding.

Great work on the charts! Being able to select price and manufacturer is great. As is the ability to select a few cards and compare all the scores.

Thanks for the update and I'm glad you'll be doing it monthly from now on! This is the most comprehensive (best) comparo I've ever found.

And I'm glad you kept the Nvidia 8800's on there for comparison's sake! I'm still holding onto a BFG 8800GTS, trying to convince myself that I need to upgrade. If you look on Steam's periodic hardware survey, 8800's are still one of the most used cards...

Why do you only have 8 plan ATI cards going up against 24 factory OC'd nVidia cards? You guys always seem to have a pretty clear bias with these chards...

I'm guessing it might have helped if ATI partners had sent in overclocked cards to be benchmarked alongside the Nvidia cards but your right in some respect it does make the charts look a bit biased and lop sided.

Huh? Where are you getting your prices from? I've regularly seen the 4830 selling for 25% less than the 4770.

As an example, here are the prices on newegg today for the cheapest card featuring each GPU:

HD 4770 ($100):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131155

HD 4830 ($77 after mir):

HD 3850 ($60):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102794

So again, I ask... why wasn't the 4830 included?

Also, what is the test system? Operating system? I hate to be picky, as I'm sure that a lot of effort is put into this kind of compilation, but more details would be nice.
