Gaming in NTFS or FAT32

I'm building a new system and the OS will be Win XP Home. I want to use the NTFS file system to help keep my system stable. Is it a better choice to use FAT32 for gaming ? Or are most newer games out there file system neutral. Thanks for the help !!

I heard some where if you use 9X use Fat, not that you have a choice, and use NTFS with NT OSs. In short NTFS is a more secure format, also uses less disk space and I believe will support larger drives. Seems most members are with the NTFS, must be paranoid or something, lol. Yeah, NTFS is really secure and if you’re not careful you might hide your important info from yourself.

For gaming though, FATS is supposed to be quicker, maybe not much, if at all some might say. But myself I like FAT32 over NTFS, and also because I have a dual boot I’m able to share files with either OS. I like FAT, and have no problem with FAT, if under different circumstance I may choice NTFS, say like for business or to have more control over programs user could use. I made a dual boot system. One 5-gig partition with fat32 which houses Win98SE and all those good old games that don't like XP. Then, I have another 3-gig partition which houses XP. I then have the remaining 72 or so gigs split in half into two ntfs partitions, housing all of my XP games, music, movies, porn, and whatever. My other drive is split into two 40-gig paritions, just because it's nice to manage smaller drives.

This setup might work for you as well. Just use fat32 for old OSs and those games which don't like XP.

Either one is ok for gaming. I'm currently running Win2k on my system with an NTFS filesystem. It is more secure and takes up less space on the Harddrive. Some of the older games won't work on win2k but there is the option to change the compatibility mode. Otherwise I would use a FAT filesystem with an older version of Windows to run the older games.
