Gaming mousepads

Yes, you heard right. I'm interested in gaming mousepads. I'm going to do a review (if I can get my hands on the pads). I've got 3 Everglides on the way, and I've contacted the makers of RatPadz and the Ice Mat. I've seen the Logitech one, but I'd rather not try to deal with a large company on this, and I don't particularly like the looks of their main premium mousepad anyway.

Who am I missing? I've looked at other roundups, and can't find any others. What's your favorite pad?

Update: I have a RatPad on the way. Just talked to Kyle.

Yes, if you have an uneven table surface. Keeps the mouse from bumping around.

So how are you going to test them. I mean what sort of criteria and how are you going to do precise measurements. If you dont' mind me asking, I'm just curious.

Well, you can't really benchmark a mousepad.

But I'll pay attention to durability, looks, size, feel, evenness/accuracy, ease of cleaning, etc.

Yes, of course. I have two of each I can use. Might borrow more from friends, we'll see.

You know if everyone used a trackball then you wouldn't have to do this. But i haven't seen a trackball i've liked in a long time. I've got one at home but can't remember the name. It's from logitech and is white with kindof a blueishgreen ball that you moved with your index finger.(or what ever the finger next to your thumb is called.)

That's your index finger.

I can't stand trackballs, but you could be right. Maybe it's just because there are no good ones.

I can't stand using my thumb so I don't really like any of the new ones. I'll try and find the name of the one I'm talking about though it kicked serious butt. It cost $90 about 5 or 6 years ago.

I've got an Everglide Giganta that I'm really fond of. But what I'd like to know is something slightly off topic. With an optical, cordless mouse ... dark colors vs white, for accuracy with the mouse, and battery life.

Of course, an optical mouse that is cordless isn't really meant for gaming, due to the different power modes that cause a slight amount of lag, which is why this is off-topic. But I still use mine for games, because I set it up as PS/2 mouse, with a refresh rate of 200. So it's almost applicable.

And, of course ... I'd like to hear your review of the different pads, too ... just because of the different surfaces.

I have the same mouse as you. I've got it on a white Everglide Attack Pad right now. I read in the Logitech info that came with the mouse (I think) that the lighter the surface, the longer the battery lasts. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's correct.

Haven't gotten any of the other pads yet...

Where'd you get the Xicomputer pad?

Looks like IceMat might send me a pad, which is really sweet.

Yeup, Ice Mat is sending me one of theirs. And, they've got a brand new one coming out, which hopefully is the one I'm getting.

Sounds like a cool idea. But I have a gripe with the Ratpadz. my little glued on plastic pieces designed to hold the mousepad in place are falling off! I just heard good things about the Ratpadz from the reviews, about how stable it was, but now (6 months) the little plastic parts are falling off. Surely I can't be the only one?

I read the same thing. However, Logitech makes a claim for battery life on the mouse that's much longer than what I'm getting ... about two weeks on a standard set of AA alkaline batteries, vs their claim of 2 to 3 months. Which is why I was curious if a white mouse pad would actually lengthen the battery life, and if so, an average of how much?

Heck, maybe I should just take the batteries out of the mouse every night!

Or store your mouse in the freezer.

What is the difference between pink and purple? The GRIP!

That only keeps batteries from being depleted when not in use, not when they're being used. And it probably wouldn't be good for the mouse.

Zealot, it's easy to find replacement tabs. They're basically the same as what you use on glass tables, to put between the glass and the metal. No reviewer is going to post a review after using the mouse for 6 months, which is why you haven't heard anything.

Toejam, I've had the mouse for just over 3 months (actually got it the day before I registered here, I believe). I haven't changed the batteries once. I've primarily been using it on a very dark fake wood table (the cheap ones from Office Depot). I just started using it on a white Everglide a couple weeks ago. No noticeable difference in battery life, of course.

sorry to bring back an old post, but i just got a leather mousepad. didnt get it cause it was leather, tho. the package said it was made from german cows in a chinese sweat shop (i am paraphrasing, of course). what more do you need?

--Wassamatta you?--

lol
That's hilarious

By the way, my mouse informed me last night that the batteries needed to be changed. 3 months isn't bad at all.

Well, I got the Rat Pad last night. Word of warning, it sucks for optical mice. Horrible, couldn't believe it.
Should be very nice for ball mice, though.

Haven't gotten the Ice Mat yet. When I get that, I'll write the review, and I'll let everyone know when it's posted.
