Gaming PC $1300ish Canadian

Hello Everyone,

I'm starting a new build and would love some help on ordering the best suitable parts. I live in Canada and have been comfortable using newegg.ca and plan to do so for this build. I am however open to using other options if I can save some money.


Budget: $1300-$1400 Canadian Dollars (prefer to keep it to $1300 but will go $1400 if I must)

Use: Primarily for online MMO gaming / FPS (Battlefield3) / Media Center

OC: I don't plan on doing any Overclocking of GPU/CPU/RAM. (hence why I went with factory OC GPU)

GPU: I don't plan on going SLI in the future, the 670 will do me fine for a few years i'm sure and I can always swap out the GPU later.

I Don't Need: Mouse/Keyboard/Monitor/speakers/soundcard/ Tower case (friend is supplying this)

I'm really having troubles picking out the proper Motherboard, I don't wanna burn money on what I don't need, at the same time I don't want to cheap out and get something crappy and possibly unreliable. None of what I have picked out is set in stone and am open to alternatives.

If you don't plan on overclocking, why get an overclockable CPU? I recommend that you do dabble in the overclocking arts. You will gain noticeable performance...especially in games such as BF3.

Thanks a million guys for your imput on my build! I'm very close to pushing the trigger. I've shipped parts to my home before and they just usually leave them on the front step. I'm going to the cottage till friday so i'm going to wait tilll I get back I think to order. Don't want anyone to steal my precious new build.

This gives me some time to finish deciding about what motherboard to get as i've had several recommendations.

I've decided to go with BestDirect solely, (thank you Why_me) also going to go with the i5-3470 and drop the cooler as suggested. I can always throw one on later if things are to hot or too loud right?

I've used asus boards in the past and they have been rock solid. I don't mind spending 20 or 30 bucks more but is there another board thats gonna give me more benefit since I'm not going to SLI and not going to OC?

For some reason, the ASrock board is more expensive in canada. Sorry about that. And no, you won't really see any noticeable benefits between the Asus p8z77 lk/le boards and the asrock board. Just get whichever is cheaper. They're all gonna do what you need 'em to do.

And yes, you can always add an aftermarket cooler if needed. Although, the stock cooler that comes with the cpu should keep the CPU cool enough. You won't be able to overclock the i5 3470.
