Geforce 9400 GT 1 gig not working like its supposed to

hey guys a week ago i bought a nvidia geforce 9400 GT 1 gigabyte graphics card and its not working like its supposed to idk if its cause my 20 inch monitor or something else in my setting. i have a total of 2730 of video memory 1024 from the graphics card and the rest is shared from my monitor i think. but my friend has the exact card and pc as mine except he has 8 gigs of ram and i have 4 but we both have quad cores. when i try to play call of duty 4 i have to play at the lowest setting cause it will lag if i dont. but my friend can play on the highest settings.

my old ati radeon 3450 HD 256mb did better. does anyone have advice for me or could help me using team viewer?

Dude u fell for marketing. 9400gt is a low-range GPU and is not meant for gaming.

It just CANNOT use that 1GB of ram it has. Even 512 mb is too much for this card.

You have a decent CPU..

Buy at least Hd 4770/4830 Nvidia 9600gt if you wanna do some gaming.


& I dont know how your friend is able to max out COD4 with 9400gt (magic prolly? 😀), but even 9600gt (with dual core amd 6000+) couldnt play COD4 totally maxed out at 16..10 without little lags.
 
ok i admit it only cost 69.99. and another weird thing is that its underclocked the memory clock is 399 and is supposed to be 400 or 800 cause it says that on the box. and the shader clock is 1350 and is supposed to be 1400mhz wtf!!!
 
You sure you wouldn't buy a piece of *** in a pretty box if i tried to sell it to you?

The memory clock is 399? its probably just lowered itself...the memory is ddr2....that means if it says 400mhz its running at 800mhz...google the definition

as to the shader clock who cares...iv no idea but its not going to matter much on that card...

Make sure to do your research next time before you buy something determined by numbers on the box and what someone tells you...
 



70$ for 9400gt?

You can get a 9600gt for 65$ after rebate!

The memory is Gddr2 so yeah it looks as 400..
399 and 400 --> it doesnt matter really
1350 to 1400 wont make much difference either.

if you want, you can clock it back. Just open rivatuner and restore to defaults.
 
Are you sure your friend doesn't have a 9500GT. Anyway, even thought the 9400GT should be a little better than a 3450, it's memory sub system could just be suffering from it's very low bandwidth considering you are probably trying to play at your monitors native res which is probably 1680x1050. Even though COD4 isn't too demanding by current standards a 9400GT just can't be expected to play it at that resolution. Your friend may just have a monitor with a lower resolution meaning his video card doesn't have to work as hard

Since you previously had a 3450 did you properly remove the drivers? If you didn't, then that would make your poor 9400GT preform even worse than it's expected too 😀. Make sure that you uninstalled the radeon drivers. I would also download drive cleaner, uninstall the nvidia drivers, boot into safe mode to clear up any radeon drivers and settings, and then boot normally and install new nvidia drivers.
 
i think he does have the 9500 or 9600GT thanks for the info guys i have uninstalled the ATI drivers in normal mode only so i should go into safe mode also?? oh and can someone do me a favor and tell which are good gfx cards for a good price on my local store here http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat182300050008&type=category plz and thanks.

and also how can i find my PSU? does a quad core points psu is power supply i think
 
There are no cards for a good price at Best Buy. Are you willing to buy online? newegg.com has some of the best prices for PC parts out there.

EDIT: To switch between ATI and nVidia, the best way is to run a utility called 'DriverCleaner'. Basicly, even tho you remove the software in Add/Remove programs, the driver files themselves are retained inside of Windows and can cause issues.
 
No, youll have to open your PC up and look on the PSU itself, there should be a sticker with a chart on it. That chart will tell you:
A) How many amps each voltage can supply
and
B) A 'Max Load' or 'Max Wattage' value.
