I actually wrote about my SSD not working (dead?) but this is a different topic so I am writing a new thread.

It seems most SSD are unstable these days.
Most of the reviews I read are talking about how there are high failure rate.
The one I got, OCZ 120GB SSD also had some reviews that say "it's great ONLY when it's working" and talked about how theirs failed in 3~6 months.
Mine lasted for about 8 months so I really didn't expect that this was gonna happen to me.

I might be able to send it back to OCZ and let them fix it for me.
But I don't know if that's a really good idea.
even if it works again, I have a strong belief that it's gonna fail again within 1 yr.

None of my HDD have failed in my life even in 1990's.
But I still want SSD speed 🙁 I really loved how much faster it was.

So here are my questions. I am sure many others have the same question as well.
Which is the best option in this case?
1) get a SSD with huge storage space or get mine fixed and keep on using it.
2) get SSD + HDD
3) get SSD/HDD hybrid

- I heard that hybrid is not as fast as SSD but still faster than HDD. is this true?
- does the hybrid also have high failure rate?
- will I be better off to just stick with HDD?

I would appreciate it if I can get answer for these questions with "recommended product in terms of both quality and price".

Thank you very much and happy holiday~!

The least expensive option is to return the OCZ ssd for repair or replacement despite the incovenience. If you are very lucky OCZ might send you a newer model.

Hybrid ssd's may or may not be as fast as standard ssd's. It depends on configuration and use.

The Samsung 830 is the successor to the wildly successful Samsung 470. The 470 has an absolutely stellar performance record. There were no major issues or problems. So far it looks like the 830 is going to be just as good as the 470. Both ssd's are Samsung designs with their their own in-house controllers, flash, and components. It looks like Samsung got it right both times.

Here is a link to the ssd database:

Scroll down to the Samsung section where you'll find links to actual technical reviews of the 830 including the one published by Tom's Hardware.

Samsung provides Sony, Lenovo, Dell, Apple, and other off the shelf brands with OEM versions of their 470, 830, and PM830 (mSATA) ssd's. If there are any major issues or problems we would have read about them.

Thank you for a very detailed info about how samsung SSD is stable Johnny.

But after having SSD that failed and broke my heart this morning, I don't know if it's really a good idea to go back to SSD even though Samsung brand is going to be much more reliable.

How is having SSD and HDD going to be different from having SSD+HDD hybrid?

yes, SSD is fastest than HDD because it's an new and advance technology SSD are particular design for OS mean windows or some heaviest applications which are run slower and take a lot of time loading in HDD while SSD is TRICE time faster than HDD to load up games, applications or OS too quickly so therefore they are too expensive in amount of larger capacity but SSD can make your system like a nitro in a sports car.

yes, HDD is important for such a standard stuff like movies, networking, music, light gaming etc.so i would say get them both!

Good luck!

Hybrid HDD is regular hard drive with 4gb of ssd attached, its like huge buffer and only helps to load faster data that you used before. it don't even compare to pure SSD its like comparing Moped with rocket attached to F1 race car 😉

i see hard drives of any make model break left and right, it's not meter of if its gona break but when. Keep regular backups and enjoy SSD,
BTW my adata 64gb got 12534 hours on it and still works perfect, luck i guess

so then do you guys ALL recommend getting separate SSD and HDD?
if so, which brand of each do you guys recommend me getting?
Also, do I install the games in SSD or HDD? I play games all the time and it may require faster load time but I don't think SSD will be big enough to store all of my games.
