To rephrase a previous post with a more accurate question....

I have an AGP Asus GeForce 8600 GTS that the fan stopped working on and overheated/shutdown several times before I figured out the problem and replaced wiht a Radeon 3450...

Is it worth trying to find a new fan/cooler for the GeForce 8600 (4 or 5 tiers better than the 3450)?

Or once its overheated multiple times is it going to continue to be problematic anyway?

If yes, should I do just the fan, or the whole cooler setup? And are there any recommendations for the replacement? I only see 3 2-pin fans on Newegg....

Solution
well depending on how the card is, it should be working, if you know how to, and find a single fan that will be fixed there, than do it.

Exchanging all the cooler can be a little expensive, not sure if worth wasting that kind of money to recover a 8600, and there is the chance of overheated problems even after the cooler is changed.

My opinion, add some external fans very close to the gpu and test if it is working, if it is not working than just forget it. otherwise you could find a nice cooler to fix somewhere there.
