It isn't on the officially supported list, but since it is the same architecture as the 8300 (which is supported) you should be good to go. I would suggest calling Gigabyte and doublechecking before dropping money on it.

Technically it should although not stated on Gigabytes site. but the 760G chipset that board uses was NOT designed to handle the FX line, I ALWAYS suggest at least a 970 chipset board for FX CPUs.

You will never be able to upgrade to the 83xx series 8 core CPUs if you take this board.

Most newer motherboards have a dedicated usb boot slot, so just download the new bios, put it on your usb stick, plug it in the back of the motherboard and boot. Even if the cpu isn't working at all with your current bios, you can still update it.

Check the manual for sure.

No you download the bios update first, place it on a usb drive .. Then you install the new processor, put in the usb drive and update the bios.

UEFI / BIOS is an OS, kinda. Don't worry about Windows and all that stuff when doing this because you do not need it.
UEFI / BIOS is on the motherboard chip so no OS, no CD, no drivers etc. are needed.

If you want fx 8 series then you are better to get the 990 series chipset MB.
ASUS M5A78L-M LE is even worst than the GA-78LMT-S2P, because LE only has the 3+1 phase count (VRMs) and the 4pin power connector. You maybe can use the fx 8 series cpu but you can't OC it at all.

Thermal limits on the 760G chipset. the board maxes out on 95W chips, which is what you have stock. you might be able to go up a couple cycles at most, but no voltage changes. and little point OC in the RAM when the hypertransport is already bottlenecking the CPU (thats what talks btwen the cpu and ram).

this isn't a problem on the newer 970/990 chipsets
