I just got one of these little beauties and have a few questions:

1.) Do IDE3 and IDE4 support more than one device on each channel like IDE1/IDE2 do?

2.) If I have a stripped set using IDE3/4, can I also set up a RAID using the SATA ports as well?

3.) Is there any way to take full advantage of my Corsair DDR400 memory? I can only get it to go to DDR333 (officially supported).

Thanks!

Dave

i have one too and i love it!!

1) yes they do take two hence the green IDE cables having two plugs for the HDD

2)i don't know (do you have SATA HDD)

3)no but i believe overclocking rules apply if you overclock the motherboard cpu and all the memory will approch the 400 speed more.

that is all i know (i ain't a power user or anything but i do love all the features the board has on it)

Wow! So you're saying that IDE3/4 each support two devices and that I could have a raid set up on both? COOL! I do not have SATA drives yet, like everyone 🙁

Thanks!

Dave

well ok i haven't set up a raid myself but i think they can have two drives per channel.

you will notice that on boot up the screen show 4 channels when trying to detect devices for the raid configuration.

i personally just use the extra channels for more storage!!!
e.g ATA 100 no raid.

i also plan on getting some SATA drives some day. (i havn't tried any of the things i sugested to you but from obsevation i think its possible)

hope it works and once you have given it a go you could tell me what you set up and what really works!!!

😛

I have the Ultra board, so I'm extrapolating to the Ultra 2. You can set up IDE 3/4 as either ATA 100 or RAID. If ATA 100, you can have two IDE devices per channel in the usual master/slave setup. If RAID, only one HD per channel, usually set up as cable select. So you can have 4 IDE devices, including CD, zip, etc., but only one RAID array.

he he he i may have confused you by saying

"e.g. ata 100 no raid"

that is because i only have an ata100 HDD

he he he

but what i want to know is why the raid channels can go up to ata 133 and the main channels can only do 100 (thats what the specs say)

why is that????

It's because GA-8PE667 Ultra 2 is based on the Intel 845PE chipset which can only go up to ATA/100 on the main channels (IDE1/2)

On the other hand, the raid channels (IDE3/4) are powered by Promise 20276 RAID controller chip which can do ATA/133.

Keep in mind that Intel never supports the idea of ATA/133.
