Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 - What's the last G.Card generation to support it

I own a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 P55 motherboard.

I wish to buy a mid-range (150$) G.Card from the last generation that will support it.

If I need to wait, I'll wait.


So does the current generation support it? What do you think will be the last generation to support it?

It supports all current graphics cards in the market.

At $150, you should be looking at the GTX 650 Ti, considering your power supply has an auxiliary 6-pin power connector.

As long as there is a PCI-e slot (there is) and sufficient power (assume there is), you can run any card you want on it.

for $150 I would be looking at a 650Ti, or a 1GB HD7850 if you can stretch the budget.

So basically it's not "will it support it" but "how bottlenecked the card will be with the relatively old system".

Is it safe to assume a new generation will be released in early 2013?

This is if they keep to the same timeline as the current gen.
The next generation of AMD cards (Radeon 8000) will release release early next year (Jan-March for the whole line). Nvidia's 700 series will be releasing around 3rd quarter 2013.

Off topic, how is that good for NV?
Unless they offer better cards at the same price, I see no reason for releasing the series later than your competing company!

Because then they have newer and probably stronger cards until AMD release the 9000 series the next year.
This gen has played out different to most in that AMD dropped the prices of all of their mid-high range cards by $50 and released two big driver updates that have caused them to be a very viable competitor against the 600 series.
If the leaked specs (and price) on the 8800 series are true, they are being very competitive next gen. I see good things in the future now that AMD and Nvidia are now in a full out war, can only benefit us consumers 😀.
