steam INFECTS! not starforce
so get your act together and never again write that word when
mentioning starforce

currently starforce is necessary but obviously steam lovers
don't like it cause the more piracy there is in retail pc
games the better your master valve can try and convince us
all that his dictatorship system steam is the only one that
can properly protect profits in the industry
starforce is currently properly protecting profits in this
industry and we don't need any abusive and against consumer
rights technologies like steam

Do ya really like to see that? Cause ya know, ya hate Steam and all, it
seems to me that this would be the kinda thing ya'd hate to see.

Dunno, maybe I just don't get it, my bad if so. Have fun, and merry xmas

This one is protected (or infected) by Starforce.

I would say that what StarForce does is at least as much an "infection" as
what Steam does, if not more. Steam is like an extra program that has to
be running and connected to the net (at some point) in order for you to
play your game. StarForce actually replaces your Windows IDE drivers with
drivers of it's own - the way a virus replaces part of the RNA of the host
cell it has infected with its virus RNA.

"Copy Control Out of Control"
http://www.fourfatchicks.com/Rants/Commentary/Copy_Control.shtml
What's the difference what copy control is used if it messes
up your computer and keeps you from playing the game you bought? Check
what he says near the end:

"Though I have never gotten my copy of XIII to run on any system,
I did finally get to play Xpand Rally. All it took was building a system
with no CD burner, no CD burning software, no virtual drives and no virus
protection. Once any possibility of copying anything, other than to the
hard drive, was removed, as well as any possibility of a driver catching
the attention of the virus protection, Xpand Rally ran just fine. Did I go
too far? I have no idea because no one I asked was willing to provide any
guidance other than "download the patch and upgrade the drivers."

The irony here is that the PC I built to run Xpand Rally is, in effect, a
console. All of the usual arguments about how superior PCs are to consoles
because PCs can do so much more pretty much evaporate once the PC is
reduced to little more than a device for streaming content from a CD or
DVD."

So in order to run his StarForce game he had to effectively turn his
computer into a console.
But you don't like consoles, right?
Doesn't this transformation bother you?

If you use your computer for work or anything other than games, you'll
need a CDRW drive and burning software to back up your work. It isn't
reasonable for a game company to expect otherwise. I wouldn't knowinglly
buy anything with Steam, but I wouldn't knowingly buy anything with
StarForce either because I think it is worse.

obviously i don't but after i read what he wrote this was
the first thing that came to my mind
basically what i believe is, there are two kinds of people
that like steam...
those that like steam but respect others that don't steam
like myself
and those which includes the thing that replied to me that
likes steam but doesn't respect others that don't like it
guys like him don't respect others period and for them the
only way is to everyone accept steam, to everyone use steam
and be forced to like steam
how can you reply to something like that? i try my best but
i agree its very difficult
if there is something i need help is to find out the best
way to reply to all the steam lovers in this group that can
only defend "steam is perfect and everyone has to use it"

mister i hope you reply to every single post i make and i'll
always read them very carefully
the only problem is i really don't see you adding anything so
if you want to discuss steam in a proper and civilized way i
will always be available and you know where to find me cause
i will not go anywhere

for me freedom of speech is sacred so you have all the right
to say steam should be present in everyone's computer around
the world and totally dominate the pc game market but i have
also all the right to say i TOTALLY DISAGREE!

djin wrote:

> Doesn't this transformation bother you?

yes very much, but wait a minute...
let me get this straight...
i hate any kind of copy protection
i defend pc games without any copy protection at all
i want ANY KIND of copy protection out of pc games forever
any king of copy protection is damaging to pc games
and yes i agree starforce is even more damaging than other
copy protections
and i do hate starforce!
but i do hate pirates even more cause they are creating all
this damage in pc games:
high prices
copy protection
and developers and publishers going out of business

starforce protects publishers profits and we need those
profits if we want to keep having new pc games to play
if developers don't have profits they stop making games

but yes i'm against coy protection including starforce
and so what can we do to try and change things?
for me the only thing to do is actively fight against
piracy cause its piracy what is causing all this
only fighting piracy can you stop copy protection in pc
games
and everyone of us, EVERYONE, every pc gamer around the
world, you, me and all have a role in this and must do its
part
if we all unite and fight piracy together it will eventually
diminish into a level that can make publishers stop using so
much copy protection including the more damaging ones like
starforce
if piracy diminishes then we pc gamers what the strength and
the arguments to ask publishers to stop using it but with
the current level of piracy no we haven't
how can you ask developers to not use copy protection when
you know better than i piracy is all around and stealing the
hard work developers do? you simply can't!

as for steam...
steam is not a copy protection system
steam has copy protection measures but its much more
steam is a all new system for pc games
but much important steam is a internet distribution system
that's why i use the "word" INFECTION, cause steam in retail
infects, cause steam doesn't belong to retail
steam is totally "alien" to the retail market
steam is a internet system and has no place in retail
steam only belongs to the internet
and in retail steam is an INFECTION
if you want to use steam fine, use it! but in the internet
and not in retail!
both channels have to be independent and autonomous and steam
is "using" retail and stoping fair competition
online distribution systems like steam have to compete fairly
with the retail channel and not use it for there own advantage
and damage and INFECT it
we must have competition between steam and retail not steam
INFECTING retail like it is doing

now starforce is simply another copy protection system just
like the so many you have been dealing for the past decade
but again i agree its the most "intrusive" of them all and
by far the most hated of them all including me

and there is a very important practical difference between
steam and starforce when it comes to installing it
i can use starforce, but i can't use steam
steam requires a broadband internet connection, and i don't
have it in the pc i use for games
i have broadband at work but not in my computer that i use
to play games
so when it comes to steam I CANNOT USE IT
when it comes to starforce at least i can use it

now let me give you some suggestions about the problems in
installing starforce...
obviously computers are multi purpose
that is the beauty of the pc being able to do many things and
that includes burning cds and playing games in the same
system so stoping this is damaging for the pc but i have a
suggestion for you
use dual boot cause it is marvelous for games
i'm not saying this is a perfect solution cause it isn't but
it can help
you have your main boot with everything you need to work
including the burning utilities and have a second boot only
for games and totally clean so it will be much easy to do
troubleshooting
dual boot is easy to implement, its cheap cause you don't
have to pay any more and it doesn't occupy lots of space
in your hard disk cause 5gb will be enough
i would really suggest dual boot for you
but let me again make this very clear...
i'm against copy protection
i'm against starforce
but... yes there is a "but", but with the present level of
piracy in pc games i will not blame any publisher for using
it and i will not boycott copy protected pc games including
the ones with starforce
the enemy is not copy protection or starforce
the enemy is PIRACY!
so its a very big mistake boycotting pc games in a time where
sales are down and the pc is loosing market share in the
gaming market for consoles
we are pc gamers so we buy games
if we stop buying games then we stop being pc gamers
i totally disagree boycotting copy protected games
what i defend is instead fight against piracy

but i totally agree and defend boycotting steam infected
retail games
attention its retail games with steam! cause steam has no
place in retail
those retail pc games infected with steam are the only ones
i defend should be boycotted cause they don't belong to the
retail market and are damaging it

bottom line... we should all stop winning about copy
protection and starforce and do something about it... and
that something is called FIGHT PIRACY!
lets fight piracy together!
long live pc games piracy and copy protection free!

You profess to hate console games ported to PC for being restricted by their
console origins, yet you bigged up Riddick whenever possible when HL2 came
out. You are a high-resolution, weapons-grade berk. Goodnight.
