I'm on my second power supply now and the noise is just killing me, I want to get the COOLMAX 480W Fanless supply but need some advice about whether it will be sufficient.

My System: Dual Opteron 250's, 4GB DDR400 RAM, 2 15,000rpm Cheeta SSCI drives in Raid 0, Via K8T board, GEForce FX 5600XT graphics card, oh yes, the case is this big hunking AL silent case with no labels on it.

PSU history, I started with a Zalman 400w silent power supply, not only was it VERY loud but it was also VERY hot. I called my builder and got him to ship me a Thermaltake Silent PurePower 560W, this unit is not hot to the touch but still VERY loud. I read 60db about a foot away from teh back of the unit. When I boot and the fans go off my office is nice and quiet, then before too long the fans kick in at high speed and peace is gone.

Before I try to CoolMax I would like your view, will it supply enough power for this system?

Thanks!

Yep, if I open the case I can clearly locate the noise source as the power supply. Also, on boot-up, the PSU fans stop for a while when the CPU coolers are going.

I'm not sure about the reputation of coolmax, but 480 watts will be plenty for you. I have had good luck with antecs, my 550 true power is fairly quiet.

Love life, and live love.
