Going from 128 MB 8300 GS to 512 MB 9600 GT

Hi guys,
Today i am going to buy a 9600 GT(I had to place an order.Now it just came to the shop)
I will be going to buy it and replace my crappy 128MB 8300 GS to install it.
My question is do i need to uninstall my old driver( i have updated to 182.50) and install the drivers that will come with the CD or just pop in the card and power connector and restart the PC.

nVidia to nVidia. IS IT REQUIRED TO UNINSTALL NAD INSTALL THE DRIVERS FOR CD.
I am buying it only to play crysis and forthcoming games at 1440x900/1280x800 at medium or med-high.


Its a Dell Inspiron 530 with a 350 W PSU
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600(G0) @ 2.4GHz (Stock)
Motherboard - Intel DG33 Express Chipset
Ram- 4 x 1Gb ddr2 ram @ 667 MHz
OS -Vista Ultimate 32- Bit

This PSU can even handle a 9800 GT or HD4830. Don't worry about it. My budget allowed me only to a Palit 9600 GT.

gratz, I had a 9600GT, its a very nice cards. enjoy it.

as for drivers, download the new 9600GT drivers from nvidia. Uninstall your old ones and install the new ones just to be safe.

That is a bit concerning as Dell PSUs are not the best of quality. And the 350W rating (IIRC) is peak out put and not continuous. You may want to consider getting a better PSU. Also how many amps on the +12?

@Shadow: I do not want to start an arguement here, but you are incorrect. Dell units are underrated and give plenty of amps on the +12v line/s.

I love how people post about Dell PSU without knowing anything about them. Dell is notorious for underrating their PSU. I ran a 9800GT on a Dell 305w PSU. Go to the dell forum and you will see people running 4830 on that same PSU and the 350w running the 4850. The 350w is not peak output so you are wrong again. Ask Delluser or any other Dell owner about their experience with Dell power supplies and video cards. Go back to mother's basement and learn a thing or two before you post otherwise you just make a complete noob of yourself...like above.

Good to know. Dell used to do this a few years back. Glad to see Dell improving ( Edit: did a bit of digging, and their PSUs seems to be mainly from SeaSonic nnow, who are the same manufactures who build Corsair units). What about HP,etc? How are their PSUs?

dont bother uninstalling.... just download the newest from Nvidia to make sure your up to date. if your old drivers are still from recent you might not even have to install new ones. at first you will have a desktop which runs as if their is no video card, but app 30 seconds after your machine totally starts up your driver may even detect you video card and apply the old driver. (which shoudl work fine)

if it does not all you need to do is download the latest or pop in the CD

Thanx dude. It takes 2 weeks for me to get the card(the card he bought was having a broken fan). Thanx a lot for ur help. I will directly pop in the card.
My PSU has 25A on +12V rail. It is surely sufficient for a 9600GT or a 9800 GT.
