Question Google Chrome freezes when left-click URL to copy to desktop

I rebooted. I don't have anything else open. Task Manager shows low resource use. I only have 15 tabs open. I left-click on the URL to drag it to the desktop. The first few times it works. Then, the process freezes on me. It won't release the URL to the desktop. I move the cursor arrow back and forth, and it shows that I have the URL selected (the box made of dotted lines below the cursor arrow). But it won't release it. And it won't let me do anything else. I have to go back into TaskManager and end task on Google and start over.

Anyone experience this? Any solutions?

It's the HP Envy with Windows 11 23H2.

As a test, open a Chrome Incognito window and try again from there. Does it work in that mode or not? If it does then it's almost certainly a rogue Chrome extension of yours that's the culprit.

It was worse with Incognito. I got the circle cursor where dragging the URL was blocked.

It was worse with Incognito.

It doesn't sound like a Chrome problem but rather something else is interfering with what you're trying to do.

As a further test, click the three dots top-right -> Cast, save & share -> Create shortcut. Does that successfully place a URL shortcut on your Desktop?
