Hi there,

In a few weeks I want to upgrade my CPU/MOBO/RAM to make it a little more future proof and next to that I do alot of flight simming in Prepar3d v4 . And as you maybe know, it's really CPU bound..

At the moment I got a i5 4460 with 8GB ram and a AMD R9 380 4GB. (3,5 years old)

I want to upgrade to a i5 8600K or a i5 6600K.

Will my R9 380 4GB be a problem? Or would it only be a problem if I upgraded a GPU instead of a CPU? (Not going for a GPU anyway..).

Thanks in regards,

Your upgrade would be worthwhile. You shouldn't worry about the GPU. Speaking of which, bottleneck wouldn't be the right word I'd use to state when a component becomes a limiting factor.

On a side note, since you'll be getting an unlocked processor, you should look at DDR4-3200MHz ram kits.

A tip, if you aren't going to overclock don't buy an overclockable CPU, your paying more money for capabilities you aren't going to be using. Also if you get a non overclockable CPU don't get an overclocking capable motherboard, or the other way around don't get an overclockable CPU and a locked board. Its just dumb to do it that way, I recommend a Non K series chip since you aren't overclocking anyways, get the fastest you can afford, within reason. And grab a decent non overclockable board.

No, your mistaken. B350 is AMD not Intel. I believe your talking about B360, which is Intel's jab at a B350 "clone", there not exactly the same as it will be for Intel 8th gen core series CPU's and it will be an Intel chipset but as people with theorize B350, B360 we can see the resemblance there Intel.

Jacob, the quote quite plainly states b360 and is un-edited, you read it wrong 😛.

And if anything, it's an AMD jab at Intel since Intel is just continuing its series line, 100,200,300 series. How AMD decided to go from 760g to 970 to 990 then bump down to a B350, X370, knowing full well that Intel would be doing Z170, Z270, Z370 is beyond me...

Welp, sorry I read it as B350. Also I don't really want to start into the conversation of who copied who, it can go both ways.

In the end I picked the 8600K, with a more expensive motherboard so I can overclock. I also got another cooler to make that happen.

At the moment I'm running P3D and performance is great! Thanks!
