So I checked here https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/MSI-990FXA-GAMING-MS-7893/16643 to see if my current motherboard would run with an upgraded card, specifically the GTX1060 6GB version and it seems like it can. However, the MSI Ms-7893 has a 2.0 pci-e slot and the 1060 runs with a 3.0 slot. Is the benchmark incorrect or am I wrong in that I can't run it on my current board? specs here https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/990FXA-GAMING/Specification for my board. Any help here is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi there, yes your GTX 1060 will work perfectly fine with your actual motherboard, with just a very little performance loss but you can't really note too much difference.

Awesome, thanks a million. Just for future reference though, and I know it's probably a dumb question because I studied this stuff for a bit (it's been a minute) but can you run something for a 3.0 on a 2.0 slot with performance loss being the downside? or will some stuff just straight up not run?

Probably it will run with just a little performance loss being the downside, the other stuff will run fine.
