Question GPU not displaying anywhere

Hello,

I recently acquired a suprim 3080 from my friend. It works completely fine on his amd build. When I set it up, my monitor was not turning on even though I had turned on my computer with the new GPU in. I tried a different hdmi and still nothing. So I tried reseating the GPU and still nothing. I then tried installing drivers by accessing my pc through the mobo hdmi. I could not download nvidia drivers as it said there wasn't any device connected(the gpu was on). I also checked device manager and nothing. I finally checked bios and I still could not see the GPU. The thing is, I had a MSI Ventus 3080 10gb previously and it worked perfectly fine, I am unsure why a MSI Suprim 3080 10gb doesn't work for my system as well. I tried a lot of stuff but couldn't get anything to work, any recommendations?

It works completely fine on his amd build.
When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

The thing is, I had a MSI Ventus 3080 10gb previously and it worked perfectly fine, I am unsure why a MSI Suprim 3080 10gb doesn't work for my system as well.
Did you use DDU prior to replacing the GPU's?

You forgot to mention the age of the PSU and the BIOS version for your motherboard.

Use DDU to remove all GPU drivers(intel, AMD and Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then manually install the latest GPU driver sourced from Nvidia's support site in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

My bios version is 1.C0 and I think the date is 10/10/2020? My psu less than 3 years old. I did DDU and installed new drivers but it didn’t work. It said “NVIDIA installer cannot continue. No NVIDIA GPU is detected in your system. This graphics could not find compatible graphics hardware” so I’m kinda stuck.

Yeah, it’s still not working. I plugged hdmi directly into gpu after reseating gpu and still nothing, could it have something to do with my gpu wire? I have lian li strimmers and it’s a 3 prong strimmers, but my old gpu only used 2 of them, so I never attached the 3rd one until now due to the suprim 3080 requiring 3. That’s the only thing I can think of, the gpu isn’t getting enough power so it’s not being reacognized by the pc.

Hello, I found the problem, one of the 8-pin connectors for my loan li strimmer doesn’t seem to work. My previous gpu only required 2 8-pin connectors. This one required 3. Mine has 3 but I never used the 3rd one. Is the strimmer broken and needs to be replaced or is the 3rd 8pin just not connected to the psu?

I'm assuming you're asking about the cable extension. If so, first try and work without the extensions and see if that is the issue to begin with. Since you're the one in possession of the PC/PSU/parts, it's easier if you traced the connectors back from the GPU to the PSU. If there's a connector that isn't plugged in, perhaps pass on images for us to see.

Given that you never used the 3rd PCI-E 8-pin connector, it could be that it never worked. So, better to look towards new one.

Though, i advise against using Lian-Li Strimer+ or any similar power cable extensions since those increase the ripple and make system (e.g in this case, GPU), less stable. Especially when you plan to OC the GPU.

Not all (A)RGB than can be added to the PC, must be added. There are other, less severe options for eyecandy. Like (A)RGB fans and LED strips. Neither of the two increase the PC instability.

Ok so I just checked the psu and I think the issue is, I previously only plugged in 2 of the 8-pins into the strimmer as I see one of the 8 pins connectors on my psu(Corsair sf750) has nothing plugged into it. So I think the fix to this whole issue would be getting an 8-pins and plugging it into the missing one for the strimmer? I do have on hand some custom 8pins from an old build but idk if I want to directly plug that into my psu where do I get ones compatible with my Corsair psu?

Use image hosting service like Imgur and then link to your images.

Your psu came with four 8 pin pcie cables. If misplaced you'll need to acquire Corsair type 4 pcie cable, either purchased from Amazon or Corsair. Never use off the shelf or different branded cables, pinouts often change and can damage components.

you do not want to use 3rd party cables or extensions with your PSU.

there are options out there that guarantee their functionality with specific models and will warranty against any damage being caused,
but you'll always be better off using the cables that came with your PSU.

what did you do with the excess cables that came with your PSU that you have not been using?

I throw out boxes after they accumulate and I must've thrown the psu box out with the extra cables in them, so I do not have the cables. Any recommendations for cables off newegg or amazon?
