Question GPU not posting

so i got a GPU from a friend it's a msi r6970 lightning 2GB for him it worked perfectly, but when i put it in my PC it wouldn't post but the fans would spin full throttle, first i thought it was my motherboard i went on the internet and it turns out that my motherboard wasn't compatible with my gpu so i got a new mobo that is compatible with it tried to power it on still no post then i thought that i could be because of i didn't have the right power connectors for the gpu i got the right ones and it powered on properly this time it was silent and all the led's turned on, but still no post. The gpu worked in my friends system but he had a bigger psu so i tried a 650w psu still no luck i'm really running out of ideas here please help!

CPU amd phenom II x4 840 3.2 ghz
GPU msi r6970 lightning 2 gb
RAM ddr3 6 gb 1600 mhz
MOBO asus m4a87td/USB3
PSU 650w
OS windows 10

Make and Model number of this PSU ? Have you updated the system BIOS as well ?

it's a aero cool VX series psu and no i haven't updated the bios

Make and Model number of this PSU ? Have you updated the system BIOS as well ?

i updated the bios and nothing changed
