Hello Old Faithfuls!
Been a while since I needed your help.

So I'm looking for an upgrade on my 5 yr old 1060- it was the 3gb version.

My budget is between 400-500 USD for the GPU + whatever it takes for an appropriate PSU.

I would prefer an NVIDIA card for DLSS. But the little research I've done makes me feel like there's not much value for money there.
So I wouldn't mind getting a Radeon either.

I mainly need help with 2 things:

1. Motherboard & Case compatibility

2. A card that will serve me well for ATLEAST the next 2-3 years @1080p.

My current specs:
System Model: Gigabyte AB350M-Gaming 3
BIOS: F41 (type: UEFI)
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Memory: 16384MB RAM
1TB HDD+ 512gb nvme SSD
I have a very basic Corsair Carbide mid-tower case.

So, there it is. I need a card that fits in my case & on my mobo and a new PSU to run it with room for a future upgrade to a Ryzen 5XXX.

Thanks. I love every single one of you!

Would be a huge improvement, with one caveat. Your CPU will severely limit the GPU. The difference between it and lets say a 5600x is about 30-40$ perhaps even more. Your GPU is only as good as your CPU. What I mean, is that your CPU sends pre-rendered frames to the GPU, the GPU then takes that data and does it's thing. If your CPU isn't fast enough (in this case your 1600), then the GPU will always be waiting on data, instead of kicking FPS out as high as possible. You will see very low GPU usage because your CPU is a few gen to old to drive the GPU.

AMD 6700/6800xt are defo good options. They do really well, even though last gen. * As above, worth considering.

This is the case.

If I spend another 50-100 bucks on the GPU, can I get anything better in terms of value??

Also, can you suggest another alternative for the PSU?
Chances are it might not be available where I am.

Thanks. :)

The spec sheet says GPU upto 414mm.

But the problem I see is the bottom drive cage restricting chonky 3slot gpu.

If you can remove the bottom drive cage, that's good.

Yo!
I can't upgrade the CPU right now- will have to wait another 5-6 months.
Hopefully going from a 1060 to a 3070/6700 will be enough to make it worthwhile till then.

I guess I'll get one of 3070/6700/6750. The 8 gigs of VRAM on Nvidia does make it less appealing though.
Anyways, thanks a ton for narrowing it down!

Well, therein lies the issue. Sometimes when you get a new GPU, and you stick with the older CPU, you will not get much of a boost as you might think, just upgrading the GPU alone.

But, you know this and are planning for it, so you'll get there :)
