Question GPU upgrade advice ?

Hello, I wanted to upgrade my GPU and I was wondering which options would be best for 1440p Gaming, I am running a Ryzen 9 3900X and a 5700XT, and I wanted to mostly upgrade my GPU because I know that it will bottleneck my CPU, which GPU do u think would be the best to upgrade to for solid 1440p gaming? I also don't wanna change my CPU right now because switching to AM5 would mean getting new RAM and a whole new motherboard so for now I am looking to upgrade the GPU, Thanks! I was maybe thinking of the 7800 or the 7900 series or maybe waiting for AMD's 9000 series, I guess I'll see then.

what is your budget for said gpu.

your current power supply ?

amd 7800 xt is good
amd 7900 gre is good.
nvidia 4070 super is good.

you can wait for the next gpu release but id wait for reviews.

What I would do:

Buy the Ryzen 7 5700X3D
Sell the Ryzen 9 3900X

Buy the RX 7800 XT
Sell the RX 5700 XT

You're looking at a 100% improvement of rasterization graphics and a doubling of VRAM. Not to mention the higher FPS numbers from the CPU upgrade. Both of these combined would make for a very shrewd purchase.

yeah I was thinking about the 7800xt so that is a very good choice and I think I can sell my GPU, but about the CPU, I think I will save more money and maybe upgrade to am5 instead of buying another am4 cpu

I play at 1440p. I had a solid experience with my 5900x paired with a 6700XT Red Devil (12 GB VRAM).
Some titles were starting to show a bit of reduced frames (45-50 ARK Survival Ascended - notoriously badly optimized. ) on the 6700XT @ 1440.

Since then I have upgraded to the 7900XT (20GB VRAM)

I gave my 6700XT to a friend who has an older 10th gen I5. He has a horrible time with the CPU running at 100% while the 6700XT is just requesting more info than the CPU/system can supply, crashing the frame-rate and slowing down the whole machine.

Point being, there is no point to make a major upgrade on the GPU without also doing the same on the CPU.

yeah I think I might upgrade to one of the AMD options, Nvidia is a little bit too pricey

im gonna maybe save up and switch over to am5 later on, but for now I wanna upgrade my GPU, what do u guys think for the GPU, was thinking about the 7900 or 7800 series and it has to be like under $550, I have an 850watt psu btw

personally id wait for the 9000 series to roll out then get the 7900xt once its reduced down. for whatever reason there are not many 7900 gre in usa dunno why.

but considering the 7900xt can be had for 649 to me its worth the additional cost.


its up to you when to pull the trigger. id keep an eye on pricing

only go with 7800xt if your budget is tight at very least the 20 vram on the 7900xt will give it a bit more longer life. or if you decide to switch to 4k down the road it leaves you options

personally id wish they would focus on the software side more i feel like alot of the actual hardware is held back by crap drivers and there hair engine is been abysmal. im hoping now that the company is stop chasing high end that they can focus on drivers and features make them better its what they lack.

Team red is improving in that department.
I believe the green team is banking a bit too much on frame generation.
I do play in 4K, but I prefer to at least render 75% of the actual game. If I couldn't do it, then I wouldn't be playing at that resolution.
As long as the choice exists, there's a happy medium for everyone.

on the newer cards going forward there seems to be to much focus on frame gen but that seems to be across the board atm
