GPU won't run DAO high resolution

Hello everyone, I finished building my first PC and now I am playing my first PC game DAO. My motherboard had an on board graphics card and I purchased a xfx radeon HD 4850 to upgrade, however when I config the game graphics I can only go up to 1680 x 1050. Does this mean that my computer is not using the radeon hd and is still using the on board graphics card. I also am using an hd tv that is capable of 1920 x 1080.

Where did you connect your dvi-vga-hdmi cable ? Into the graphic card or into motherboard slot ?
