In an article about overclocking why the hell would you choose the 4870, a card that doesn't overclock barely at all, over the 4890 which overclocks like gangbusters?

I mean, you guys had to know that, so WHY?

And, it looks like you upped the voltage on the GTX260 but not the 4870. But no volt mods for the 4870? Well, its really no tie, the way you do it in your article, the GTX260 wins.
They way we do it in real life, 4890 wins (overclocking amount that is).

Ok, one more comment, (really, no cards "win" its about getting the best OC you can out of what you got).

I realize as someone who is really into overclocking that this article wasn't really meant for me, but it could have been done so much better. Go check out overclock.net if you want some REAL guides on overclocking. Hope to see you the forum!

i for one like setting rivatuner to run the fan at 80% when temps go past 70%...which is only when i'm playing!!!

i wish this stuff was built into the driver so i would have to install third party apps.

You guys didn't even overclock the 4890 in your review of the card...
From the original review:
"The principal benefit from moving from HD 4870 to HD 4890 would, in our minds, be overclocking headroom."

"Rather than push our card that high and run the risk of misrepresenting performance with a hand-picked sample, however, we ran our HIS Radeon HD 4890 Turbo sample at its stock 900/975 MHz speeds and compared it to the reference clocks ATI is officially launching."

And now you use the 4870 in you oc article. LOL

Hey, its Tino Kreiss. Nvidia's Charlie D. counterpart. I'm surprised though he didn't do the old drivers trick this time.

I use CBABE, a 3000 specific bios editor. Coupled with winflash on the XP side of my computer, bios changes take about 2min with boot up. A quick test on 3D06 at 1920x1200 w 4AA finds the flaws by Canyon Flight. I have flashed the cards so many times screwing around with them that I misplaced the original bios. Never had a bad flash. However, the voltages are limited. it does not matter what you put in, the card will only go so high. You need to HARD volt mod to attain a very precise stable OC that will literally allow you to push the card to 99% of it's capabilities with cooling that meets the demands.
