Graphics too hot?

Hi, i just put in a Asus Radeon hd 5450 into a cheap asus desktop ive had for a while. However, when i put it in, the graphics is running at around 90-100C. I'm fairly new at this, and wondering if this is too high and i need to take it out before it roasts something. Thanks

That is very high. Are those temps just when the PC is Idling or when under load? On Nvida cards I think it will throttle back the GPU clock at 105C. You might want to check the ATi info or Catalyst Control Centre for more info.
Do you have any fans in the case?

The card is Overheating.Try cleaning the dust out of the fan.Is the Fan even spinng at all?

It has a passive cooler on it, stock. I just tried it again after booting and leaving to sit for a while. Idle it was about 75c and under load at about 80% it was about 85-90

Well the 5450 is a big card so it shouldn't' be getting that hot at all.Is their any dust on it?

no. at this point i think i might just take it out and deal with shitty frames until i can build a new computer

I meant to say the 5450 ISN'T a very strong card so i'm not sure if it's even capable of getting that hot.

What program are you using to check the temps?

I used both a desktop widget and then the ATI catalyst program.

How old is the 5450? Maybe all it needs is some new thermal paste.

it was bought about a month, maybe a little more.

If the warranty is still good I would suggest RMAing it.

Try running the computer with the side panel off and a fan blowing on it. If the 5450 runs much cooler, then the problem is you have a crappy case with bad airflow.

Didn't even think about that.I figured since it's a passive cooler it shouldn't really matter but I guess you could give it a try.
