i just got an adapter off of ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/132175095746?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)
and i wanted to know if i could just hook it into my usb 3.0 slots on the back of my pc or use the pcie 1x to usb 3.0. using the 1x adapter will require me chopping a hole into my gtx1060 because it overhangs the 1x slot, but if i could get it to work over the slots on the back of my pc, that would be great. also, i have a lenovo m92p tower

Solution
That is a very interesting looking adapter but given the complete lack of any USB 3.0 controller chips on either board it's pretty clear it's just using the USB 3.0 cable as a conveniently available 9-pin cord, and not actually converting anything to actual USB.

I'm afraid you'll have to use the 1x slot

i was thinking thats how it would be, thank you!

its only because the secondary monitor doesnt have digital input and i have a gt730 laying around and i wanted to use it instead of the integrated graphics for the vga output

Could have been solved with a $7 adaptor

i've actually tried one of these, and they do not work on my particular monitor because the monitor says "input not supported" whenever i tried it. pretty sure it needs an active adapter and not a passive one
