I have contacted Rockstar support a total of 5 times. Although they were friendly and useful, they have exhausted all possible fixes of which none have worked. I am praying that you guys can shine some new advice down on me.

With over 1000 hours played of this game, I'll be very gutted if I can't get it to work. I have been trying to fix it for two weeks solid, pretty much.

I get the same error every single time:

Things I have tried so far:

  • Unplugging all USB ports except from a plain mouse and keyboard.
  • Stopping everything in ms-config apart from Windows services.
  • Turning off all start up services in task manager.
  • Deleting and reinstalling usb drivers.
  • Clean install of graphics drivers.
  • Clean install of GTA on different hardrives.
  • Deleting settings files and having the game recreate them.
  • Verifying Steam cache a million times.
  • Starting GTA in safe mode on lowest possible graphics.
  • Checking and fixing all Windows system files.
  • Making a second windows user profile with admin permissions.
  • Setting GTA to launch with admin privileges in compatibility mode Windows 7.
  • Clean install of GTA with Steam start with admin privileges.
  • Making sure GTA has access through Windows firewall.
  • Making sure the router has relevant ports open.

Possible Ideas I have left:

Fresh install of Windows 10
Resetting Bios
Buying a hammer and then a new PC setup :)

If we are truly in the brightest timeline, then someone out there knows how to fix this.

hello guys, I ve got the same issue while playing GTA online. I have tried all the ways you listed above, even including reinstall my windows system, reset my bios settings. However none of this works. In the last week, it won't crash when I only use one 8g memory, 8g+8g would crash. However, today I found that the only 8g would also crash.

By the way, two of my friends won't get this issue. I found the only difference between our computer was the windows version. I use the professional win10 while their computer was the family version.

I have tested every part of my computer, and tried to play other games, only GTAV crashed.

I found some said turn off the vpn like app would help, bu it wasn't possible for me to launch online mod with out an vpn like app.By the way, my two friends also use vpn like app while playing, and they won't crash even after about 5 to 6 hours playing.

So I want to know the version of your windows as we can find if the family version of win10 won't got a crash.

AND MY LAPTOP HARDWARES ARE:
clevo p157sma;
i7- 4710mq;
adata 8g ram * 2;
GTX 970m;
two 250g ssd (Samsumg 860 evo (game in this one)AND Plextorpx(system in this one));
windows 10 professional 1809 with newest update;
plug one 2560*1440 Benq monitor;( I have tested the monitor and it won't effect)

Hi Guys
I have the same problem to I'm running i7-9700k with a RTX 2080 and 32GB DDR4 Ram. Mine runs for about 15-30 minutes before crashing the only difference is I'm running mods with my gta but the problem only started after I downloaded 'Make Visuals Great Again' i may try uninstalling that and see if it works.

As I read all the threads it doesn't matter if you have mods. I installed NVR, water2k, 2 replaced cars and it is crashing just like clean instalation on clean system.
I would totally blame Rockstar for this one.

I'm having the same exact issues. It actually started when I reinstalled my Windows 10, I didn't want to download the whole game again, so I used the old game files to reinstall the game. Don't know if it has anything to do with that, but that was exactly the time the new Casino Update arrived. Sometimes I can play for hours, sometimes it crashes randomly and in intervalls after 5-10 minutes.

I actually figured restarting the PC helps: After the crash happens, I restart the PC and then close all applications in the background using task manager and I can play for a couple of hours before it crashes again. But this is definitely not acceptable and needs to be fixed from Rockstar.

Does amd gpus crash too? Nvidia recently introduced ultra input latency option in their drivers, has anyone with crashings have this option on in NvidiaCP?
I looked through the crash report, it seems nothing to do with the GPUs, the crash was caused by a memory/disk read/write error.

Hi, I experience the same issues and I already have tried several potential fixes without success.

According to Windows reliability history I had the first crash on 3 August. I know that I was playing on 27 July and 28 July to take a look at the casino update and did not have any problems on those days. Odd...

I use Windows 10 Professional 1903.

I believe I fixed this. I was getting the same error codes as most of you here. One thing I noticed was there was always an esent error before gta crashed. The esent error was a svchost error. It was related to some log file but the file directory was incomplete. Ever since I created the directory folders specified in the event viewer I haven’t had a crash.

Wow, so many people having this same exact issue... :/ I'm so frustrated about it

I just opened a ticket with Rockstar, but I hardly feel they'll provide a solution :/, If they happen to share something I'll post it here as well.

It's just really sad to know that anyone with a Playstation or Xbox will never face something like this...

Same problem here ... and I found something out: When I disconnect my pc from the network (disconnected the cable) it works!
Of course you can't play online anymore, but Singleplayer works now (it didn't work before!).

I did further testing and it seems that blocking the domain "patches.rockstargames.com" does the same. With this domain blocked, the Social Club can't log you in and the game starts in offline mode.

So this is more a workaround than a fix, but I think we now have to wait until Rockstar fixes our Social Club accounts/online player data?

Hello everyone i just registered to stay in touch with this...also because i always found useful info here.

Guess what i am also having same issue :/ its always "D3DERRDEVICELOST " "Unable to stat-out /read file" and so on...

My setup:
Windows 10x64 build 1903
i7-6700k @4GHZ
GTX750 TI
16Gig RAM

What i ve tried so far:
Reinstalled game - yes i vent trough the hassle of downloading 80Gigs of data twice
Reinstalled Windows
Reinstalled latest Nvidia drivers
Installed old driver version i think it was 350.12 it was even called GTA V release or something like that
Installed "DCH" version of driver
Verified game data trough social club launcher, also verified them manually - md5 check
Updated directX
Reinstalled Visual C++
Deleted social club cache
Tried lowest possible graphics settings
Reset CMOS settings - yeah makes no sense but tried anyway
Disabled HyperThreading for CPU
Moved the game to another drive
Checked all my drives for errors
Checked my PC temps

I also contacted RockstarGames provided them with everything i could but no luck... i Belive this is their problem because everything started after the casino update

Anyone on Win7 this is happening to?

As of this post im testing in single player. Not actually playing, just standing in front of Michael's house on the nature strip. I'll leave it go and see what happens.

Is this enough to crash for those involved?

---

Almost 2hrs no crash. Let me know if standing still like that crashes the game.

Soo... I think I fixed it (at least for me): I had several internet filters installed to block ads, spam, etc. I disabled all of them and the game doesn't crash anymore.
For example:
  • cleared/deleted host file
  • used a not-filtering DNS Server (like the one from Google and not the one from my internet provider, pi.hole, etc.)
  • disabled all safety filters in router/FRITZ!Box
  • disabled vpn (or using not-filtering)
  • ...

I believe there could be two reasons
  1. The latest patch from graphic driver update is not getting in sync with GTA V configuration
  2. The latest patch from GTA V could have messed things up
I favor the first reason
The possible solution?
  1. Install windows 10 again with old graphic drivers for instance if version 2.1 is the latest graphic driver install 1.8 and format the hard drives
  2. Clean install GTA V offline from a disk and run
  3. Go online and inspect if you encounter the same error again
