I have contacted Rockstar support a total of 5 times. Although they were friendly and useful, they have exhausted all possible fixes of which none have worked. I am praying that you guys can shine some new advice down on me.

With over 1000 hours played of this game, I'll be very gutted if I can't get it to work. I have been trying to fix it for two weeks solid, pretty much.

I get the same error every single time:

Things I have tried so far:

  • Unplugging all USB ports except from a plain mouse and keyboard.
  • Stopping everything in ms-config apart from Windows services.
  • Turning off all start up services in task manager.
  • Deleting and reinstalling usb drivers.
  • Clean install of graphics drivers.
  • Clean install of GTA on different hardrives.
  • Deleting settings files and having the game recreate them.
  • Verifying Steam cache a million times.
  • Starting GTA in safe mode on lowest possible graphics.
  • Checking and fixing all Windows system files.
  • Making a second windows user profile with admin permissions.
  • Setting GTA to launch with admin privileges in compatibility mode Windows 7.
  • Clean install of GTA with Steam start with admin privileges.
  • Making sure GTA has access through Windows firewall.
  • Making sure the router has relevant ports open.

Possible Ideas I have left:

Fresh install of Windows 10
Resetting Bios
Buying a hammer and then a new PC setup :)

If we are truly in the brightest timeline, then someone out there knows how to fix this.

the issue to me sounds simply a bad driver or a patch is buggered up the games way of accessing vram and ram

simple reasoning i doubt everyone here has a bad video driver or bad memory which is also associated with 0xc0000005 .

im assuming rockstar accidentally broke the game fiddling with its version of a registry and has broken something. that communicates with the gpu vram or ram in general

Has anybody floated the idea that the Windows 10 November 2019 (1909) update fixes the issues?

I received the Windows 10 May 2019 (1903) update August 2nd, GTA started its 30 minutes crashes around August 20th. Unrelated, my Windows Updates got foobarred and I had to use the Windows 10 Update Assistant to apply Windows 10 November 2019 (1909). Immediately after applying Mon Night, GTA ran fine for an hour plus with a clean exit for 3 days (Tues Night, Wed Night, Fri Night).

Wow man.. thats alot, to be honest if GTA V is an important game to you and you cant get it to run anymore i would just reinstall windows. that does pretty much always help in "any" situation... presonally i reinstall my windows every half year just do get it clean and fast. who knows what microsoft really does :)

I dont have no idea for other fix you tryed everything i can imagine.. but i once had trouble with my pc and couldnt figure out what to do i tryed everything, then someone told me check your cable and what.. it was the cable no programms no drivers just the damn cable but in your case doesnt make sense since you have problem only with gta game.

when you delete gta you also delete rockstargames launcher? like in the windows explorer delete EVERY SINGLE entry about gta and rockstar then navigate to registry and do same there. but for real, reinstall windows is good..

On nVidia Driver Update Notes

https://www.techspot.com/downloads/drivers/essentials/nvidia-geforce/

Windows 10 Issues
  • [Battlefield V][G-SYNC][HDR]: When G-SYNC and HDR are enabled, the game cannot be maximized to full-screen after being minimized to the taskbar. [200558314]
  • [Grand Theft Auto V]: The game frequently crashes.

It has nothing to do with your computer. The issue lies with Rockstar. nVidia is trying to work with Rockstar to find a fix. Obviously we are trying to solve the problem ourselves, but for anyone thinking their device is faulty, this is happening to a lot of us. I have a brand new PC, and all my other games run fluent and brilliantly. Only GTA crashes after 45 min or so gameplay.

Probably not the issue here but I had alot of crashes sourced from playing GTA 5 - turning off quick startup for Windows 10 seemed to have helped me. Of course my crashes often turned in to a "faulty_hardware_error BSOD" so probably not the same issue.

Do you guys have the latest Rockstar launcher and latest patch updates for GTA V?
GTA V downloaded from torrent or cracked will give such issues.
Also make sure you are not overclocking anything.

I can play GTA V no issue with OCed 2080 Ti 4K max graphics max AA.
Its flawless except for FPS slow downs during the first Trevor mission.

i had the same problem, random frezze or and desktopcrash after some minutes.
fixed for me:
open control panel
navigate to programs and features
click dissable or enable windows features (requireds admin)
in the list look for legacy components
thick the checkmark
extend the section and aslo enable directplay

This fixed for me.
additional solution, verify steam file, clear download cache, reinstall gpu driver, reinstall operatingsystem.

random desktop crash can be caused by directx
might want to reinstall that aswell

If the above eventually fails, I'd start from scratch, but in a new installation partition as a test harness (it'll be on the same hardware).

Do you have enough space on your HD to put in a dual-boot and make a new windows-10 installation just to try everything out?

  1. Make a dual boot partition (not hard these days).
  2. Install windows 10 to it.
  3. (Don't go crazy updating anything on your own, just go with whatever it updates on its own for now---critical updates/drivers/etc).
  4. Install your game.
  5. Test.

If it's fine, THEN, update everything else a little at a time.

Test.

You might discover that you're spending less time doing this that futzing around trying to figure out what went wrong on an older installation.

Side note: Note: I seem to be among the few that find Windows to be an impressive OS. However, Microsoft still can't seem to get out of its own way with regard to systems getting flakier over time (I don't care what anyone else says). Linux does not exhibit this issue. Mac OS(s) do not either. Seems like full re-installs are always on my mind every couple years or so with Windows, and this is 2020 for criminey sakes.

I am now getting this same issue. The difference is I could play this game on a PC that had a 750TI and I don't even know the other specs as it was bought built. I know have a PC consisting of a 2060 Super intel i7 7700k with onboard graphics (Not a computer genius)

Cut to the point I was playing absolutely fine never had crashed before but then my friend when on my account which he has done many times previously and he was playing fine, quit then rejoined and kept continuing to crash over and over within seconds. Now I am doing the same. I spoke to rockstar and they gave me a couple of fixes like deleting certain files such as "cfg.dat" and "pc_settings.bin" and renaming folders to try restart/refresh. I also disabled cloud saves. I've reinstalled the whole game. Done every simple fix they offered. They have redirected me to a Rockstar representative but still no response. I get the standard rockstar launcher crash.

I haven't read every single reply on this forum post but i'm hoping someone has had a similar problem and had a fix.

Much appreciated.

EDIT: I'm not sure what 'code' or where to find a crash code.
