Question GTA 5 Online crashing 10-20 mins into the game( Massive head scratcher )

I have contacted Rockstar support a total of 5 times. Although they were friendly and useful, they have exhausted all possible fixes of which none have worked. I am praying that you guys can shine some new advice down on me.

With over 1000 hours played of this game, I'll be very gutted if I can't get it to work. I have been trying to fix it for two weeks solid, pretty much.

• Unplugging all USB ports except from a plain mouse and keyboard.
• Stopping everything in ms-config apart from Windows services.
• Turning off all start up services in task manager.
• Deleting and reinstalling usb drivers.
• Clean install of graphics drivers.
• Clean install of GTA on different hardrives.
• Deleting settings files and having the game recreate them.
• Verifying Steam cache a million times.
• Starting GTA in safe mode on lowest possible graphics.
• Checking and fixing all Windows system files.
• Making a second windows user profile with admin permissions.
• Setting GTA to launch with admin privileges in compatibility mode Windows 7.
• Clean install of GTA with Steam start with admin privileges.
• Making sure GTA has access through Windows firewall.
• Making sure the router has relevant ports open.

Possible Ideas I have left:

Fresh install of Windows 10
Resetting Bios
Buying a hammer and then a new PC setup

If we are truly in the brightest timeline, then someone out there knows how to fix this.

Last night i could play 2 hours straight without crashing. I reinstalled the latest nvidia driver 436.48. I can't confirm that the new driver is fixed the problem, but maybe something changed. Try it if you didn't find any solution yet.

I knew that i wasnt only one having this problem. Ive tried everything ive readed on this topic. Doesnt seem to work, so iam just gonna wait till they fix their own game. Aint a hardware problem.. im sure of that.

Hello, i had some pronlems with GTA V crashing. Error message 0x5d825c4b
Solution: change Nvidia driver, go to Geeforce Experience > Drivers> click in the 3dots on the right up corner, just bellow you avatar, change driver from Game Ready Driver to Studio Driver. To me this works! I'm using right now the version Nvdia Studio Driver 431.86.

I'm a professional game programmer with over 20 years of experience (on top of the professional software engineering I did at Compaq Computer Corporation). I've gone through as much research as I can find (roughly 10 hours of research over the past few days) and have tried a few things outside of this thread's suggestions.

None of them have worked.

This is definitely a software issue with GTA 5 online. The problem is too wide-spread to not be an application issue.

The common factor between us (NVIDIA and AMD video cards are affected) is that the software crashes with 0xc05.

A 15-20+ minute crash is not fun to debug, though. It does seem time related and not specific to any in-game activity.

All we can do is wait for Rockstar to fix the issue on their end.

Good to hear that rly. Last time while i was chating with rock.. suport they trying to tell me that only problem is with my pc/internet/firewall and etc.

I got the same problem but i found a solution for me. Try to Install the game on a SSD and not on a HDD. I got a Samsung 960 EVO and since I moved the game I had no crashes.

My game its instaled on SSD drive for about year so i don't think that's a issue (for me atleast).

I'm having the issue on 5 computers now. None of them can run gta 5/online without crashing. All other games run fine. Each computer has entirely different configurations for the most part too. 2 don't even use nvidia graphics cards. Rolling back to various drivers on all 5 fixes it but when RDR2 comes out I won't be upgrading my driver to play that over gta. I have rdr2 on ps4 also and it's okay but not as amazing or addictive as gta.

It's a problem between Nvidia drivers and GTA V. I currently have a 1070 Ti and I experience the same sort of crashing. It's a known error that Nvidia is currently trying to solve, here is the link : Scroll down

I know it isn't much help but GTA V issues have been in the nvidia driver release notes and they state they are working with the game developer even with the most recent release.

If I had to guess, you're running a particular mod set. If so this was the same problem my daughter had. It turned out that the launcher was detecting the files, and eventually threatened to ban her(even though she was just playing GTA 5 in campaign mode not multi-player at all). The only other issue I have noticed for GTA 5 crashes was when GPU is set to 0 RPM mode for older GPUs. The heat ramps up so quickly that even the card thermal throttling, whilst the fans attempt to cool just overwhelms them, and they crash. You'll know if this was the case if: the game freezes, GPU fans are maxed, and nothing responds. However, from your log entries, and the type of crash, seem to be more generally GPU based.

Have you tried playing on lower settings and gradually increasing quality settings and resolution(alternating between both) incrementally?

Have you tried running MSI Afterburner's OSD? So you can view GPU/CPU usage and heat? May give you some indication of what is happening to both prior to crash.

Heres the problem.

The game.

You have no issues in other games, you have tried any type of troubleshooting anyone has offered. Your thermals are great. Your system is capable. On top of that the game has always been known to have crashing issues. Just because you havent had them until now does not mean anything.

I mean I get crashes just from overclocking my gpu a little bit with d3d errors and such. Sometimes it will just freeze (mostly during story) and I have no issues like this in other games.. It definately could be their latest update messed something up for specific hardware such as something you have. Not all updates are optimized for all hardware.

Your last choice is to just try and reinstall windows. If it does not work after that, you can 100% bet its the game itself which imo it already is.

EDIT: Just realized this was an old thread. Are you still having this issue? if not, how did you fix it?

Gta 5 has been having wide spread issues lately for many many people. There's a huge thread on steam as well on this matter of the game exiting with a crash report. Apparently it started around the time of the Casino update.

Rockstar are supposedly aware but not sure if been fixed yet.

I tried helping early on but yeah, sort of an old thread but people are still coming and going. I have no idea if gta5 is still crashing. Seems to happen more often online.

my personal experience, I dont get crashes unless I OC my gpu. Always with a gpu related error. But I use the same gpu OC for any other game and it runs flawless.

So I basically just chalked it up, and ran at lower settings and lower fps just to play since I couldnt OC.

GTA 5 definately has some issues that has not been ironed out. And I blame the game itself as I never have issues on other games, same as the op.

Guys I found this advise on steam. Disable all VPN client and virtual network adaptors. I use a cyber ghost (not connect during play only had the vpn software installed). I removed it completly incl. deinstall virtual network adaptor and just played 1 hour without any problems.

Its not just a game it is an addiction...how could you just stop playing 1 hour
