Gtx 480 "Heat" question during heavy gaming

First and foremost, here are my specs. I'm about to build it in the next few days as I already ordered them.

Case: Cooler Master HAF 912
GPU: EVGA GTX 480 (before you ask, I got it for $199.99)
CPU: i5-3570k ($220!)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212+
SSD: M4 Crucial 128gb SATA III
Moba: MSI Z77A-G43
RAM: G.skill ripjaws x series 8gb 1600mhz
PSU: Seasonic 620w bronze semi-modular


I'll be doing heavy gaming with Diablo 3, Dota 2, LoL, and HoN. I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions for proper cooling? I feel like I would have sufficient cable management with my PSU and the haf 912. I didn't buy any extra case fans. I did proper research for the gtx 480 and heard everyone's opinions on its heat issues.

My question is that does it only run super hot depending on what you are doing on your computer? When it comes to graphics card, I don't know much. Everyone that has given a review of the 480 always compares it to when playing BF3. I'm not going to play BF3, but assuming that I play Diablo 3 which this card is complete overkill (yes I'm aware...), will I run into absurdly high heating issues? I also heard you can set custom fan profiles for the card.

Any advice?

Temps may be warm for the GTX 480 with that cases airflow but yea you should be fine... Just don't get a second one unless you plan to get a new power supply

Yea I don't plan too. I wanted a single graphics card that would be a beast.

It should be OK with HAF 912. I've got that case myself and the ventilation inside is very good. Also, the games you mentioned aren't very graphically intensive 😉.

with the haf 912 you can take out some of the hard driver cages.

Take them out. Get some Velcro and on the top of the remaining cage on the top of a small fan. Place the fan so it blows into the GPU. Take off the back plates where you gpu is placed. Open that up. This should bring the temps down 5c. I did the same but also added a fan on the outside of me case in the back. Lowered the temp by 5c for under 15 bucks.

I have seen the 199 480's lots of gpu power for the money.
They generaly have a blower fan (the 199 models anyway)
have an fan blow air directly onto the GPU intake fan.

Or if you are keeping it for a while buy a accelero or accelero extreme plus 2x (exagertating) or a zalman vf 3000 they should keep you cool and current for at leat a few years

No matter what case or proper airflow you have, the GTX 470s/480s are designed to run as hot as hell, the cards reaches a temps of 85-95C when doing a lot of load on it.

Taking spentshells advice, you might go with an after market cooler which will reduce the heat dramatically.
