GTX 580 Vs. GTX 560Ti Overclocked

I'm not an expert, but I have some experience, & I'd like some advice between 2 cards. I only have 1 PCI Express x16, so I unfortunately cannot duel card with SLI, & I'm limited on where I can buy.

So what I want to know is the "PNY GTX 580" way more powerful then the "PNY GTX 560Ti (Overclocked)" that I shouldn't even think about the 560Ti, or is the differences only minor?

Welcome to the forums.

To answer your question the gtx580 will be the best choice. An overclocked gtx560ti will reach close to a 570 performance(with a high overclock). So the gtx580 will be by any means more powerful. But you are comparing two cards in completely different price segments. The 580 is around twice the price of the 560.


At what resolution do you play games and what PSU do you have(brand and model)?
Also can you post your sys specks?

I play at [strike]1980x1060[/strike] 1680x1050, & I have a stock 480W PSU, but plan to upgrade it for the new card.

I have a HP Pavilion HPE
AMD Phenom II 1090T Processor (3.2 GHz)
10 GB of RAM
64-bit Windows 7
AMD Radeon HD 6670 (1GB)

For that resolution the 560 is more than sufficient.

In the following chart you can get an idea of the relative performance ranking of various GPUs running at a display resolution of 1680x1050. The ASUS GeForce GTX 560 Direct Cu II 1 GB is factory overclocked to 900 MHz which is 50 MHz higher than the PNY GTX 560 Ti OC 1024MB PCIe (VCGGTX560TXPB-OC) you were considering.

Basically I have a limited choice, & the GTX 580 & GTX 560Ti from PNY seemed to be the best ones. I would like the more powerful of the 2, if that's the GTX 580, I will get it.

When you get the PNY GTX 580 (VCGGTX580XPB) make sure that the power supply you get has a minimum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 42 Amps or greater and with at least one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

When purchasing a power supply unit, meeting the combined +12 Volt continuous current rating requirement is vastly more important than meeting the wattage requirement.

+1 to what ko888 said. Also did you consider witch PSU to get? We can help you with that also.

I suggest something around corsair 650-750w TX series(or HX for better quality). The 650w models have 52 amps on the 12v rails. If you are considering to overclock the CPU tu higher speeds and also your new gtx580 then i recommend the 750w for clearance and capacitor aging. (ou, there will be others witch will say 750w is too much)

Anyway, hope you get that nice 1920x1080 monitor soon .

Yes it is. You don't really know what to get, do you? What's your budget?

It's faster then a gtx560ti but slower then a gtx580.

For the resolution you play any of them are great to overkill choices. But for 1080p and more future proofing the more powerful the card is the better. So if you want to buy a card buy the fastest one you can afford.

you will not be disappointed the GTX 580 is the best single core card you can buy, have fun! I have a pny gtx 570 in which I just rma'ed but they seem to have good service, no diss on the company I truly feel that I just got a lemon

however I would most definatley get a new psu, a gtx 580 will not run on a no name 480w psu, not a chance, I would also start trying to further oc your x6 once you get a new psu, my 2 cents

Update.

I finally got my PNY GTX580 & installed it.
For the PSU I was able to get my hands on was a Corsair GS700.

Both work great!

I am able to run Crysis 2 with the DX11 Ultra upgrade + Hi Res texture pack, with everything set to ultra & get a solid 30fps in big environments & fights, up to 60 in tight quarters. It only drops below 30 very briefly if something is happening right in my face like shooing someone/thing point blank. Very very playable though.

Couldn't be happier!

If you have any problems with your setup don't be a stranger . Also remember to go outside, don't enjoy crysis and metro 2033 all day (ha ha ha).
